KIA ES01000-00 Symbol Marking Standardization

The “KIA ES01000-00 Symbol marking standardization” standard, developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturing company in Korea, describes the marking method on parts manufactured by the original equipment manufacturer or dealer to supply the passenger car aftermarket.

According to this standard, there are four types of symbols:

The appropriate symbol is selected from among these. If there is no suitable space in the part, it is possible to mark it by reducing the size (the size must be the same when creating the symbol).

When applying a single symbol marking (these are unique parts for each company), the dimensions given in the standard apply.

When applying a composite symbol mark, if there is a shortage of space for engraving the logos of two companies, one logo can be engraved over the other.

Marking method for various production processes: As seen in the table given in the standard, a symbol mark applied according to the production method and available space can be selected. Among them, the high priority method should be selected. However, the mark can be changed according to the logo work plan.

Priority for selecting symbol mark type:

• The type of marking or size can be selected by the manufacturer, but if space is available the longest size should be selected.
• Markings must be embossed or etched onto parts, but if hose, pipe, belt and injection/glass, printing is permissible (screen printing or stamping).
• However, in the case of printed markings, they should not be easily removed.
• The background color of the parts is natural, the letter is white or yellow. The background color should contrast with the letter. Otherwise, make the background color and the color should be blue. The exposed part can be reduced for example the belt and printed similar to the background color and with more coating. In the case of glass, the color should be black.
• Priority is engraving, but if this is not possible, relief can be used (the depth or height of the relief or engraving is between 0,2 mm and 0,3 mm and can be varied).

The dimensions between the symbol mark and the material mark should be as specified in the table given in the standard. The material notation method should be mainly in accordance with the Hyundai “Kia MS 201-01 Material properties” standard.

The manufacturer logo must be smaller than the original equipment manufacturer symbol mark and its location must be to the right of the symbol logo (however, if there is insufficient space, any other location may be suitable).

Symbol signs must be placed in the most visible and central location but must not be visible outside the vehicle once equipped. However, protrusions may be permitted in the engine room or under the floor.

A symbol mark shall be placed as shown in the figure and in accordance with the conditions given in the standard. The location of the symbol shall be indicated on the approval drawing together with the note described in this standard.
