The United States Automotive Research Council (USCAR) is an automotive research organization that aims to advance American automotive technology through joint research and development. This organization develops common standards with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the SAE USCAR 21 standard defines test methods and requirements for the verification of solderless wave connections. The purpose of this test is to simulate the stress seen in a laboratory environment at a typical lifetime for a wave connection, say 15 years and 150 miles, and ensure that the wave is mechanically strong and electrically stable.
The SAE USCAR 21 standard is designed for use with braided automotive copper wire. However, where specifically indicated, it is also applied to other structures or other core materials such as aluminium, cladding, steel core and similar. This standard does not apply only to wire types that are not specified.
The SAE USCAR 21 standard is based on accepted environmental exposure levels for automotive applications. If, in an intended vehicle application, a product covered by this standard is subject to some additional conditions, it must undergo special tests that simulate possible real conditions before being accepted for real vehicle application. For products certified by the supplier to comply with certain parts of this standard, any deviations must be documented and included in the test report.
Wave applications validated according to this standard are intended to replace wave information in component prints. The terminal supplier company is responsible for the selection and testing of the wave set. Firms supplying the harness are responsible for the verification of all waves produced according to this standard.
Environmental exposures specified in this standard include thermal shock and temperature humidity cycling and are used to force each manufacturing terminal and cable combination used under test to simulate field exposure.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides performance properties testing services for electrical mixtures from cable to terminal within the scope of SAE USCAR 21 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
