In the D47 1309 standard, developed by the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, Europe's second largest automobile manufacturer, the aging climate cycles exposed by automotive equipment materials or parts are defined. The principle on which this standard is based is to subject the materials or parts to be tested to one of the aging cycles described in the procedure and then check for deterioration in their mechanical, physical or appearance properties.

The test environment has a temperature of 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees and a relative humidity of 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent. Samples must be representative of the variable being characterized. To ensure this representativeness, it is necessary to know the basic characteristics of the population being studied. Sample selection criteria should be indicated in the test report in accordance with the A10 0156 standard ( Writing test or measurement reports).
The climatic cycles to which the parts or samples will be subjected are included in a table within the standard. This table shows the cycle, cycle time (hours), temperature (degrees Celsius), relative humidity (percent) and indications.
While performing the tests, the temperature change is carried out at a rate of about 2 degrees/min to avoid thermal shocks. When the water content is not specified, the environment is without added humidity and as a result it becomes dependent on ambient humidity (dry temperature, uncontrolled humidity). After the cycles, the samples are kept in the controlled environment chamber for 24 hours. The reference of the cycle to be made and the number of cycles are included in the normative documents. The properties of materials that go through the same climatic cycles as those used for new materials, ie strength, flexibility, elongation, bursting and similar properties, should be determined. If necessary, the percentage of deterioration and possible changes in appearance are recorded.
The test report should include the following information along with the results obtained:
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for automotive equipment materials and parts that age after a certain climate cycle, within the scope of the D47 1309 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
