BMW AA-0213 Condensate Test

BMW AA-0213 Condensate Test

The condensate water test is applied to determine the behavior of coatings under defined climatic conditions by examining the resistance of coatings in a humid environment. These tests are performed in two different modes: condensate with constant humidity or changing atmosphere.

BMW AA-0213 Condensate Test

A condensate test method is described in the BMW AA-0213 standard, developed by BMW, a multinational vehicle manufacturer company headquartered in Germany.

On the other hand, these tests are based on the following standards developed by the German Standardization Institute (DIN) and published by the International Standards Organization (ISO):

  • ISO 6270-1 Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to moisture - Part 1: Condensation (one-sided exposure)
  • ISO 6270-2 Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to moisture - Part 2: Condensation (indoor exposure with heated water tank)

Both the BMW AA-0213 standard and the ISO standards define the general conditions that must be observed regarding the stretching of samples in condensate stationary atmospheres or condensate alternating atmospheres, to ensure that test results performed in different laboratories are reproducible. These tests are designed to elucidate the behavior of samples in humid ambient atmospheres and to detect any defect in the corrosion protection of the samples.

The air is filled with water vapor. Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air turns back into liquid water. So condensation is the opposite of evaporation.

An automotive headlight is an environment with high thermal exchange with the external environment. Therefore, moisture can accumulate inside the headlight and condense on the lens. A headlight design must be such that it can expel all condensed water within a consistent time frame under severe thermal conditions.

In the BMW AA-0213 standard, coated test specimens are tested in either stable condensate atmospheres or varying condensate atmospheres and describe the general conditions and procedures that must be observed to ensure the results of repeatable tests performed in different laboratories are verified. It also describes a test method for determining the resistance of paint films, paint systems and related products to condensation conditions in accordance with the requirements of coating or product specifications.

Our organization also provides condensation water testing services within the scope of BMW AA-0213 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
