BMW GS 90011 Organic Materials Coating of Parts Made of Metallic Materials - Requirements and Tests

Developed by BMW, a multinational vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Germany, the BMW GS 90011 standard describes the quality requirements for coating parts made of metallic materials (including the whole body) by means of organic materials and their entry in the form of symbols on drawings and technical papers. For painted interior or exterior plastic parts, the BMWS 60091.0 Part 33 standard applies. In addition, the BMW GS 97045-1 and BMW GS 97045-2 standard applies to the polished metal parts (including the entire body), and to the painted plastic parts inside and outside.

Organic coating is a type of coating consisting of carbon-based polymeric chains obtained from natural or synthetic materials such as vegetables and animals. It can be found in the form of solid, sticky and sticky organic coatings, paints, varnishes, varnishes.

Organic coatings are used for protective, decorative or certain functional purposes. When it comes to aluminum and aluminum alloys, organic coatings are widely used to protect engineering structures and products from corrosion. The corrosion protection of the metal substrate provided by organic coatings relies on its ability to form highly resistant pathways between the anodic and cathodic areas on the metal surface. This property is achieved by manipulating the barrier properties of the bulk material and the metal/coating interface (ie adhesion). In both cases, the electrochemical reactions occurring on the metal surface are moderated by the reduction of the reaction rate by the migration kinetics of the ions produced at the cathode and those produced at the anode. It is also recognized that defects in the organic coating are one of the most common causes of corrosion failure. Surface cleaning and chemical conversion processes improve adhesion by creating stronger interfacial interaction between the organic coating and the aluminum or aluminum alloy surface.

Organic coatings consist of different components such as binder, pigments, solvent and additives.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services under the BMW GS 90011 standard for coating metallic parts with organic materials, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
