GM4465P Water Fog Moisture Test

GM4465P Water Fog Moisture Test

The GM4465P standard developed by the General Motors company describes the requirements for testing the water resistance of coated samples under saturated water fog conditions. This standard is based on the ASTM D1735 standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) with improvements and exceptions specific to GM requirements (standard practice for testing the water resistance of coatings using the ASTM D1735-04 Water mist apparatus). This standard contains basic principles and operating procedures for testing the water resistance of coatings in an apparatus similar to that used for salt spray testing. This application is limited to the methods of obtaining, measuring and controlling the conditions and procedures of water mist tests. It does not specify sample preparation, specific test conditions, or evaluation of results. To test the water resistance of coatings, alternative applications ASTM D870, ASTM D2247 and ASTM D4585 standards are applied.

In the water fog humidity test, the coated samples are tested by exposing them to high temperature water fog using apparatus similar to the apparatus used for the salt spray test according to the ASTM B117 standard. Test specimens are placed in a closed chamber that meets the instrument requirements of the ASTM B117 standard. Here the samples are exposed to continuous indirect spray water falling on the samples at a rate of 38 to 100 ml/1.0cm2.0/hr at 80 degrees room temperature and 2 percent relative humidity. This climate is maintained under steady steady state conditions. Test duration is variable.

The moisture test provides a controlled accelerated corrosive environment to evaluate the relative corrosion resistance of the coating, substrate or part itself. Although it does not contain the salt component, it is similar to the salt spray test. Parts or panels are placed inside a chamber and exposed continuously for a period of time, then evaluated for resistance to corrosion or blistering. Some other common humidity standards and water immersion standards are ASTM D810 and FLTM BI 104-01.

Our organization also provides water fog humidity testing services within the scope of GM4465P standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
