GM9504P Oven Aging Test Procedure for Painted Plastic Surfaces

GM9504P Oven Aging Test Procedure for Painted Plastic Surfaces

The GM9504P standard developed by the General Motors company describes the oven aging test method for painted plastic surfaces.

Oven aging method is generally applied to accelerate the aging process. At the same time, this method is a way of simulating the conditions that the sample may be exposed to during the product life cycle. Standard tests and comparisons with unaged samples are performed on aged samples. The heat aging test, known as oven aging or accelerated aging, is performed to determine the service temperatures of a product or material using heat to accelerate the aging process. This test is often run in conjunction with other tests and combines multiple elements to help predict service life in the field. By performing physical tests in advanced laboratories, it is determined how aging affects different properties of the material or product.

The ISO 188 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) also describes a test method to measure the effects of high temperatures on different properties of the material (ISO 188 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Accelerated aging and heat resistance tests). With this test method, the result of different temperatures on the properties of the substance is determined. This standard provides two test methods to determine accelerated aging or heat resistance on vulcanized or thermoplastic rubbers:

  • Method A: This method uses a cell furnace or a furnace using a cabinet furnace with low air velocity and 3 to 10 different ventilations per hour.
  • Method B: A cabinet oven is used with forced air circulation by means of a fan and 3 to 10 different ventilations per hour.

In general, during the test, the temperature in the oven is increased up to 80 plus/minus 2 degrees above room temperature. The room temperature is measured 2 meters above the oven and level with the air intake, as well as at least 1 meter away from other objects.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides oven aging test services for painted plastic surfaces, within the scope of the GM9504P standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
