Developed by PSA, a French multinational automotive company that produces cars and motorcycles under brands such as Peugeot, Citroën and Opel, the standard “PSA B20 0250 Substances, materials and usage restrictions regulated within the PSA Group” aims to clarify the rules in force within the PSA Group. This standard does not replace the various national, European or other legal regulations that restrict or prohibit the use of substances in order to guarantee human health and environmental protection. These different regulations must be met by the PSA Group and its suppliers.

This standard applies to series and aftermarket parts or materials installed in vehicles that are released to market. This does not apply to parts or materials that do not remain in the vehicle that is released to market (e.g. temporary protection product, product used in logistics, product lost in the production process), but these products are still subject to the requirements of the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) directive.
The requirements must be taken into account regardless of the marketing or production location of the vehicle. This applies particularly in Europe, China, North America, Japan, South Korea, where the regulation is currently the most restrictive, but also in other parts of the world where equivalent regulations have not yet come into force (such as India). PSA Group therefore aims to harmonise the requirements of its vehicles regardless of their marketing/production location.
In regions of the world where the regulation is not yet implemented, if the current situation does not allow these requirements to be met by meeting the technical requirements of the PSA Group, it may be decided on a case-by-case basis and with the agreement of the PSA Group to use technical solutions that do not comply with the requirements of these articles.
This standard complements the PSA B70 0001 standard and should be considered together. In fact, this standard defines the health, safety and environmental requirements related to PSA industrial and aftermarket activities. It concerns chemical products (oils, greases, adhesives) or parts containing chemical products (batteries, parts coated with oils, grease) delivered to the different PSA plants.
For the purposes of this standard, homogeneous material means a material of homogeneous composition that cannot be mechanically separated into different materials.
According to this standard, as a general rule, the notification or prohibition requirements in the "Global automotive declarable substances list" must be fulfilled. In addition, the different requirements of the REACH regulation (registration, notification of substances, etc.) must be taken into account and the REACH Automotive Industry guide must be used for this purpose.
For chemical products supplied to European PSA industrial or aftermarket facilities, suppliers must deliver these products to the PSA Group from European Union countries or EFTA (European Free Trade Association) member states. These products must also meet the requirements set out in the PSA B70 0001 standard. At the same time, the obligations of the European Biocides Directive and the Persistent Organic Pollutants Directive must be fulfilled.
Briefly, the objectives of this standard are:
As a general rule, the prohibitions to be observed are defined as “prohibited” in the list entitled “Global automotive declarable substances list”. Furthermore, PSA requires that substances with very high concerns for health and the environment be eliminated as soon as possible. In particular, substances that cause skin sensitization, which are classified under the CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) regulation or are contained in parts or materials supplied to the PSA Group and which may endanger customers (such as interior parts), must not be used. This requirement is detailed in the technical specifications of the parts or materials for those in contact with customers. If there is any technical impossibility to use an alternative solution, the PSA Group must be informed in order to obtain its approval.
The list of prohibited or restricted substances is organized under the following subheadings:
Traceability requirements are intended to comply with regulatory reporting compliance and control risks to our employees and customers related to potential exposure to substances of concern.
Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from every sector with its testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies carried out in a wide range for years, has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. In this context, testing services are also provided to businesses in accordance with the standard of “Substances, materials and usage restrictions regulated in the PSA B20 0250 PSA Group”.
