VW 50002 Material Compatibility, Product List, Resistance to Agents, Test Agents

The VW 50002 standard, developed by Volkswagen automobile company, defines test methods for components from the interior, exterior (including main headlights/rear combination lamp), powertrain and chassis areas. This standard is applied in conjunction with test specifications (PVs) and technical supply specifications (TLs), where the resistance of materials to substances and related test methods are described in more detail.

The selection of agents, together with the relevant test method, should ensure the resistance of the materials and therefore the function of the component in everyday conditions. Misuse and improper use are not taken into account.

During group-wide application, brand-specific arrangements should be agreed with the appropriate materials engineering department of the buyer. Product lists of approved testing agents are available in magnetic media.

For the purposes of this standard,

  • Interior refers to all surfaces inside the vehicle (luggage compartment, storage compartments and similar areas) and components that may come into direct contact with the relevant agents.
  • Exterior refers to all components (floor panels, lighting and similar components) located in the exterior that may come into contact with the relevant substances.
  • Powertrain refers to all components in the powertrain/chassis area that may come into contact with intermediaries.

According to this standard, test agents must be available on the open market, on the aftermarket, or through the chemical trade, or be produced with the individual ingredients specified.

There are many key factors to consider when selecting materials, especially for automobile bodies . The primary requirements for automotive materials include thermal, chemical, or mechanical resistance, ease of production, durability, and many other mechanical properties, including cost and availability. A wide variety of materials are used in vehicle manufacturing. The main materials used in the construction of automobiles, parts, and components are steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper, plastics, and carbon fiber, along with future trends. In the future, composite materials will have significant advantages over steel in automobile production. With composites, vehicles that are lighter, safer, and more fuel-efficient are produced.
