Renault 32-05-163 Fully Trimmed Front Seats - Standard Functional Description

The standard "Renault 32-05-163 Fully upholstered front seats - Standard functional description" developed by the French automobile company Renault is to define the functional characteristics of fully upholstered front seats installed in vehicles. For details regarding the frame, the RNDS-C-20165 standard applies: fully upholstered seats must not reduce the functional characteristics and performance of the frame.

Renault 32-05-163 Fully Trimmed Front Seats - Standard Functional Description

The standard includes numerical values in a gradual manner and in principle refers to product description documents for other vehicle-specific values. In this standard, the requirements for fully trimmed front seats must meet all the requirements of the standard “Renault 32-05-008 Interior trim parts - General requirements”.

In terms of electrical connection, the connectors must also meet the specifications of the “Renault 36-05-009 Common electrical ISO copper wire specification - Extra low voltage and low voltage” standard and the “Renault 36-05-013 Electrical cables” standard. The connectors must be Renault approved.

The functional coding of the polypropylene carbonate seat in terms of corrosion resistance is in accordance with the test method described in the standard “Renault D17 2028 Corrosion test with automatic alternation of humidity and drying phases” and with the standard “Renault 47-01-000/E Protection against corrosive attack on metal parts and components assembled together on the vehicle assembly”. The Renault standard 32-05-163 includes requirements for the following materials:

  • For seat fixing studs
  • For headrest bar
  • For spacers above or below the slides provided with an insert
  • For the hanging mat of the seat cushion and backrest

In this standard, the requirements for passenger compartment air quality are based on:

  • Table of values for complete seat trim (target emissions)
  • Compliance with the standards “Renault D42 3109 Passenger compartment - Evaluation of VOC content by thermal desorption / GC/MS” and “Renault D49 3027 Determination of volatile organic emissions - Chamber test - Analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC) produced from cabin parts” for volatile organic compounds (VOC)
  • Compliance with the standard “Renault D49 3046 Odour test - Odour emissions - Interior equipment parts - Measurement of the intensity and characterisation of odour from parts in the air conditioning room in the passenger compartment” and the standard “Renault D49 3001 Odour test - Emitted odours - Interior equipment parts - Assessment of intensity and general odour characterisation” for odours
  • The overall intensity of the odors should be no more than 2,5.

In terms of recycling, the delivered products must be developed taking into account their recycling at the end of the vehicle’s life cycle, in accordance with the requirements of the “Renault 00-10-060 Design for recycling” standard. According to the Directive 2005/64/EC on the type-approval of motor vehicles in terms of reusability, recyclability and recoverability, a recyclability rate of at least 85% of the vehicle by mass is required. For this purpose, the seats contribute to achieving this rate, which means defining the material on the plane. The directive proposes to increase the amount of recycled materials in vehicles and to increase the use of these materials.

Suppliers must inform Renault of the composition and quality of the materials, as well as the percentage of recycled materials used in the production of the parts. Priority should be given to recycled materials in production. Material marking and identification are required for parts weighing more than 100 grams. For parts weighing less than 100 grams, marking should be applied if the shape of the part permits. In all cases, the Renault 00-10-060 standard must be followed. Multiple marking is required for larger parts.

Regarding static electricity, in addition to pyrotechnic devices (airbags, pretensioners), the Renault 32-10-001 test procedure must be applied in order to avoid ignition of generators.

In terms of scratch resistance, the abrasion resistance of carpets is assessed according to the test method described in the standard “Renault D44 1221 Brushed velour surface materials - Abrasion resistance”. Loading areas of station wagons and SUV commercial vehicles must still be able to withstand 3,2 tests under 100 kg.

The following tests are performed for hardness:

  • Armrest
  • Hood
  • Longitudinal handle, backrest adjustment, horizontal table and rear seat access
    • Arm resistance (outside the work area)
    • Resistance to excessive movement or excessive effort after stopping
  • Arm height adjuster
  • Transverse hardness pumping process
  • Pinch resistance of seat covers (cars)
  • Seat valence shock resistance
  • Seat valence input-output resistance
  • Interface resistance of cuff (excluding waist)
  • Injected arm quality
  • Seat nose hardness

The expected target in durability tests is to have no noise and no loss of function on the test track.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “Renault 32-05-163 Fully trimmed front seats - Standard functional definition” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
