Mitsubishi ES-X64304 Anti-Corrosion Wax - Anti-Rot, Anti-Stick

Mitsubishi ES-X64304 Anti-Corrosion Wax - Anti-Rot, Anti-Stick

The standard “Mitsubishi ES-X64304 Anti-corrosion wax - Rotting, overlaying” developed by Mitsubishi Motors describes the requirements for anti-corrosion wax for use in closed areas, overlaps and where particularly high anti-corrosion properties are required. This material should not be applied in areas where there is a possibility of adhesion of plastic parts to the design surface.

Mitsubishi ES-X64304 Anti-Corrosion Wax - Anti-Rot, Anti-Stick

Wax is classified into two types according to the table provided in the standard: I-1 is applied to Japanese-made vehicles. I-1 is also applied to other vehicles, but I-3 may be applied if supply is difficult.

Types of corrosion inhibitor waxes are as follows:

  • I-1 Flame resistant
  • I-3 Standard

Corrosion prevention waxes must meet the requirements shown in the table given in the standard on the basis of:

  • Properties of beeswax
    • Flash point (must be 1 degrees and above for type I-40, 3 degrees and above for type I-35)
    • Viscosity (in accordance with the agreement between the parties) must be)
    • Permeability - Method A (must be 1 mm and above for type I-10, 3 mm and above for type I-30)
    • Permeability - Method B (must be in accordance with the agreement between the parties)
    • Dry time (maximum 1 hours for type I-12, maximum 3 hour for type I-1)
    • Non-volatile (percentage by weight) (must be in accordance with agreement between the parties)
    • Storage stability (must be in accordance with the agreement between the parties)
  • Coating properties
    • Hazardous materials (must comply with ES-X56901 standard)
    • Appearance (coating film should be continuous, free of bubbles, pinholes and similar defects)
    • Salt spray resistance (test panel must be free of red rust)
    • Moisture resistance (test panel must be free of red rust)
    • Coating film staining (no staining should be noticeable)
    • Coating thickness limit (1 µm and above for I-50 type, 3 µm and above for I-10 type)
    • Sagging (should be no more than 1 seconds for type I-10)
    • Secondary sagging (should not sag)
    • Rubber compatibility (must be free from cracks, stickiness, bubbles and similar defects)

Unless otherwise stated, the standard test condition shall be 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees temperature and 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity (room temperature).

As a rule, the test should be repeated three times and all test results should meet this specification. The worst value should be reported.

For all performance specification tests, test panels should be made of cold-rolled steel and have approximate dimensions of 70 x 150 x 0,8 mm. The surface of the test panels must be degreased with solvent. The test panels must then be coated with wax to the specified coating thickness. Unless otherwise specified, the coating thickness should conform to the table given in the standard. Specifically, for type I-1, the dry coating is 50 plus/minus 10 µm, and for type I-3, the wet coating is 25 plus/minus 3 µm.

When applying the “Test method - Wax property”, the flash point must comply with the standards shown in the table:

  • ISO 1 or JIS K 3679-2265 Rapid balance method for type I-2
  • ASTM D 3 or JIS K 56-2265 Labeled closed cup method for type I-1

Viscosity must conform to ISO 2555 or JIS K 7117-1 standards. The rotation speed should be 30 rpm, bath temperature 20 ± 2 degrees Celsius, and blocking time 30 minutes.

Permeability,

  • Method A: A sample is prepared and placed horizontally as shown in the figure. Then 4 ml of wax is placed on the jig. The penetration length in the cavity is measured.
  • Method B: If the test jig shown in the figure cannot be prepared, consult with the relevant parties, use the test jig shown in the other figure to drip 2ml of wax from the top, and compare the penetration length between the new and old materials.

To determine the drying time, the test panel is prepared according to the standard. Then, it is measured how long it takes for the surface to harden at room temperature. Surface hardening is defined as the wax not transferring to the finger when the surface is touched with a finger.

The non-volatile condition must be in accordance with ISO 3251 or JIS K 5601 1-2 standards. The heat temperature must be between 105 - 110 degrees and the heat time must be 3 hours.

For storage stability, after measuring the viscosity, about 500 g of wax is placed in a hermetically sealed box, and the sealant is kept in a thermostatic chamber at 40 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees for 336 hours. Then, the conditioning temperature is adjusted and the viscosity is measured again. The rate of change in the viscosity of the sealant before aging is calculated.

When applying the “Test method - Coating property”, the test panel coated with wax in accordance with the standard is visually inspected for defects.

Salt spray resistance should be in accordance with ISO 9227 or JIS Z 2371. After the salt spray test, the test panel is examined for red rust corrosion.

For moisture resistance, the test panel is exposed to the moisture pit. Then, the test panel is visually inspected for corrosion. The test condition is as follows:

  • For type I-1, temperature of 50 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees, relative humidity of 98 percent plus/minus 2 percent and test duration of 480 hours.
  • For type I-3, temperature of 50 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees, relative humidity of 98 percent plus/minus 2 percent and test duration of 240 hours.
