Volvo VCS 1027, 2759 Determination of Emission of Organic Compounds (TVOC-MS)

The Volvo VCS 1027, 2759 standard designed by Volvo vehicle company describes the requirements for the determination of organic emissions (total volatile organic compounds) of non-metallic materials originating from automotive interior organic materials and defines a test method.

Volvo VCS 1027, 2759 Determination of Emission of Organic Compounds (TVOC-MS)

This test method is used to determine the emissions of certain organic substances emitted from non-metallic materials in or in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. In this method, as a measure of the total emission (TVOC) of a material, the sum of individual substances according to gas chromatographic analysis and detection with a flame ionization detector according to the VCS 1027, 2749 standard is used.

During these tests, the sample is first tempered at 120 degrees for 5 hours, and then the head-space technique is used. Head-space sampling is the extraction of volatile analytes from the sample and then injection in a gas chromatograph for analysis.

If components are made of different materials, separate tests are required for each material. Testing of components should be carried out at the earliest one week after the date of manufacture and at the latest four weeks after the date of manufacture. Components must be stored from the date of manufacture to the date of testing and must be in the same temperature, humidity, packaging and similar conditions as the components supplied to production. In addition, samples must be provided on the day of testing.

In general, conditioning of the sample is not necessary. Only natural materials such as cotton, wood, leather and wool are cut into small pieces and dried over calcium chloride for 24 hours and weighed. The sample is taken from the prescribed point. It is divided into parts weighing between 10-25 mg.

The amount of test to be weighed depends on the size of the head-space bottle with a minimum volume of 5 ml. For the 10 ml bottle, the sample should be 1.000 grams plus/minus 0,001 grams. Metal parts are removed before weighing. Paint, adhesive and similar organic substances adhering to metal parts are removed.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of the Volvo VCS 1027, 2759 standard, the organic emissions of non-metallic materials (from automotive interior, organic materials) It also provides testing services for the determination of total volatile organic compounds.
