PSA B65 5240 Complex Material - Specification for Cabin and Trunk Lid Sound Insulation Mats

PSA B65 5240 Complex Material - Specification for Cabin and Trunk Lid Sound Insulation Mats

The standard "PSA B65 5240 Complex material - Specification for cabin and trunk lid soundproofing carpets", developed by the French automobile company Renault, describes the technical characteristics that complex materials for cabin and trunk lid soundproofing carpets must meet. This standard also includes a data sheet for springs made of felt or foam when they are attached to the carpet appearance.

PSA B65 5240 Complex Material - Specification for Cabin and Trunk Lid Sound Insulation Mats

Sound insulation under aprons and tunnel cabins (independent units) with soundproofing material or under sectional carpets for which special standards are allocated is outside the scope of this standard:

  • Materials for apron cabins and tunnel complexes are subject to the standard “PSA B65 3110 Materials for apron cabins and tunnel complexes”.
  • Soundproofing material acoustic absorbers are subject to the standard “PSA B65 4251 Specification for sound insulation using acoustic absorbers”.

The carpet complex can be created from the following materials:

  • Made of textile material (carpet, needlepoint carpet or tufted) or washable material (rubber, thermoplastic elastomer, TPO)
  • From a heavy mass or film
  • Absorbent made of fibrous materials or cellular materials

These complexes cabin and boot lid carpet can offer acoustic absorption (absorbent) functionality or sound insulation (insulator) functionality or both. Soundproofing compounds are indexed according to acoustic effectiveness classes X or Y. Materials that are the subject of the procedure for preparing the technical data sheet must meet this current standard.

Requirements are transferred from system to subsystem according to the overall performances provided by the material in terms of:

  • Regulation and consumption
  • Appearance when new
  • Appearance after wear and tear
  • Appearance after wear and tear
  • Compliance with the straight edge core competencies standard
  • Technical specifications (mechanical, thermal, etc.)

In addition, the essential requirements are intended for a classification that allows their traceability to the automotive system engineering system. For example, for resistance to microorganisms (mold): MAT_VEH_TMA_301.

The encoding is in the format MAT_XXX_YYY_ZZZ:

  • MAT stands for material
  • XXX identifies the application:
    • VEH for the entire vehicle system
    • INT for indoor applications
    • EXT for external applications
    • SCM for under-hood applications
  • YYY indicates localization
    • TMA for all applications in the environment
    • VIS for visible applications of the environment
    • NVI for invisible applications of the environment
  • ZZZ indicates serial number

During trimming, the supplier must specify the category and detailed percentage of the various subcomponents of the product. In addition, these requirements must be supported by standards. No unspecified engineering changes can be made to any of these materials without the agreement of the relevant engineering departments of the PSA Group. Any changes to the materials necessarily require a new approval.

Materials must be traced from raw material packages to finished products. Each material must be characterized by commercial assembly reference parts and a set of packages.

During production, some absorbent types can be used in a planar state under the carpet. Complex carpets and some carpet underlays are shaped: their production can be carried out by skin pack, thermocompression, foaming. In order to follow these items during the project phase, critical points should be determined.

Materials must comply with the PSA B20 0250 standard, which specifies the following relevant requirements:

  • Prohibited substances, especially the four heavy metals in directive 2000/53/CE, Substances in REACH Annexes XIV and XVII, brominated flame retardants, polybromobiphenyls and polybromodiphenyl ethers, persistent organic pollutants regulation, biocidal regulation
  • Declaration (certificate of conformity regarding heavy metals, PSA substance list including REACH candidate list)

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “PSA B65 5240 Complex material - Specification for cabin and trunk lid sound insulation carpets” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
