MAN M 3007 Coatings - Testing for Removal of Stains from Matt Coatings

MAN M 3007 Coatings - Testing for Removal of Stains from Matt Coatings

The test method described in the standard “MAN M 3007 Coatings – Testing the removal of stains from matt coatings” developed by the automotive company MAN is used to help determine whether substances such as mineral oils and greases cause stains on the coating during the assembly of vehicles that cannot be removed later.

The standards and supporting materials referenced in these tests include:

  • Test pieces of approximately 1514 x 200 x 100 in size conforming to the standard “ISO 1 Paints and varnishes - Standard panels for testing”.
  • Pickled, deep-drawn sheet according to the standard “DIN 1623 Cold-rolled strip and sheet - Technical delivery conditions - General structural steels” or according to the standard “DIN EN 10130 Cold-rolled low-carbon steel flat products suitable for cold forming - Technical delivery conditions”.
  • Cleaning agent in accordance with MAN M 3106 standard
  • Cellulose

Coating of test sheets occurs on one side according to the relevant company standard or manufacturer's specification.

As a method, the coated sheets are tested for stain removal after 7 days of storage at room temperature. The test substances are applied to the coating in individual drops (approximately 2 cm to 3 cm in diameter). After 10 minutes, they are wiped dry with cellulose and then removed with a cleaning agent in accordance with the MAN M 3106 standard.

The evaluation result is as follows:

  • A0: No stains visible to the naked eye on the coating
  • A1: Stains on the coating are visible to the naked eye

The expected situation at the end of the test is that there will be no visible stains on the coating with the naked eye.

Matte paint is a unique exterior finish that gives a vehicle a distinctive appearance. Matte finishes are different from other automotive paints and require special care to maintain their appearance. Typical gloss finishes use a high-gloss clear coat that reflects light and gives a glossy appearance. A matte finish uses a different coating that neutralizes light, providing a uniquely flat surface. Unlike a typical high-gloss finish, damage to a matte finish (such as scratches or abrasions from aggressive cleaning) cannot be polished out. Once an area is damaged or glossed, the flat appearance cannot be restored.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the standard “MAN M 3007 Coatings - Testing whether stains can be removed from matt coatings” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
