Hyundai Kia MS300-08 Standard Test Method - Flammability Resistance for Interior Materials

Hyundai Kia MS300-08 Standard Test Method - Flammability Resistance for Interior Materials

The standard “Hyundai Kia MS300-08 Standard test method - Flammability resistance for interior materials” developed by Hyundai Motor Company is based on the officially published MVSS NO.302 standard and the safety standards issued by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. This standard contains test methods and requirements for the flammability resistance of interior materials of automobiles.

Hyundai Kia MS300-08 Standard Test Method - Flammability Resistance for Interior Materials

The following components of automobile interior materials located within 13 mm of the passenger compartment air surface must meet the requirements of this standard:

  • Seat and backrest
  • safety belt
  • Head covering
  • Reversible top
  • Armrest
  • Door lining, door lining seal (water shield)
  • Cover side covering
  • Quarter wrap
  • Side trim
  • Column cladding
  • Rear shelf
  • Headrest
  • Carpet
  • Floor mat
  • Still wasting
  • Sun visor
  • Gölgelik
  • Footrest
  • Dashboard pad and body
  • Speaker network, pad
  • Parking brake lever cover
  • Gear lever boot
  • Glove side cover
  • Console box
  • Console side cover
  • Airbag box cover, cushion and wrap
  • All other materials in the vehicle passenger compartment designed to absorb collision energy and reduce noise (airbag, steering wheel center pad, cushion part of the airbag and knee support, etc.)
  • Engine compartment covers: Installing flammable material on the engine compartment side of the firewall is not a violation of this specification because the material is in the engine compartment, which is separated from the passenger compartment by the firewall. Only the cover in the passenger compartment without the firewall is subject to flammability testing.
  • Wheelhouse covers: Wheelhouse protectors are not exposed to the passenger compartment area and are not part of the verification of this standard.

According to general requirements, materials subjected to flame resistance treatment should have excellent durability and should not deteriorate flame resistance due to fatigue during the production process or after loading.

The products must be free from defects that may affect their performance after flame resistance treatment. They must also conform to the part and material specifications.

Flame retardant treated parts should not cause quality problems such as stains, fading, cracks, corrosion or unpleasant odors for built-in materials or other parts and materials used in contact.

In case of flame resistance process, retardants prohibited by worldwide regulation should not be used.

The material is tested using the methods specified in the standard and must comply with the table.

Before starting the test, 5 samples are prepared. The samples should be of the specified size (width 100 mm and length 350 mm) whenever possible. The thickness is the thickness of the finished products. However, if the thickness of the finished products exceeds 12 mm, the sample is prepared uniformly up to 12 mm thickness.

When it is impossible to obtain the specified dimension, the samples are cut from the areas that receive the smallest bending. The thickness should not exceed 12 mm in any place. However, in the case of materials made of two layers of different composition made of composite materials at a depth of 13 mm from the surface, whether they adhere or not, the samples are prepared according to the following methods:

  • In case of adhesion of the entire surface: When the two adhering materials are not separated, samples are prepared in a bonded state at a depth of 12 mm from the surface of the parts.
  • In case of non-adhesion of the entire surface: Separate the materials only on the surface of the sitting chamber air surface and prepare samples from the separated materials, also cut samples from the adhering surface to a depth of 12 mm. However, when two different imposed materials adhere again to a depth of 12 mm, the samples are prepared in the same way as the sitting chamber air space.

When the maximum dimensions achievable in width and length are less than the specified dimensions, the samples shall be cut to the largest possible dimensions. In this case, the minimum dimensions of the samples shall be 25 mm wide and 293 mm long.

Specimens cut from material produced by the same process as the finished products when it is not possible to obtain a flat sample due to surface curvature. The thickness of the samples shall be that of the flat part of the finished parts.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “Hyundai Kia MS300-08 Standard test method - Flammability resistance for interior materials” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
