GMW 14341 Wheel Rotary Bending Fatigue Test

GMW 14341 Wheel Rotary Bending Fatigue Test

In the GMW 14341 standard developed by the General Motors company, a test method is defined to determine the rolling bending fatigue strength of passenger car and light duty truck wheels.

GMW 14341 Wheel Rotary Bending Fatigue Test

Rotational bending fatigue testing is a fatigue test method that allows to evaluate the resistance of a wheel by exploiting a rotating bending moment obtained through a rotating unbalanced mass. This test method simulates a load condition to which the wheel is subjected during use. Especially during this test, the main stresses are developed in the middle part of the wheel.

The bending test machines used in these tests have undergone a reinforcing system in recent years, resulting in the following:

  • Thanks to the parameter data collection system with increasing sampling frequency, the control is increased.
  • Time history is improved thanks to the capacity to save parameters and test data throughout the entire test performance.
  • The precision of the wheel bending measurement system has been increased.
  • Data security has been upgraded.

The wheel swivel bending test (or cornering fatigue test) aims to determine the structural performance of the wheel for normal road use in passenger cars, light trucks and multi-purpose vehicles. The wheels are mounted on a test machine that simulates cornering under heavy loads. The wheel is placed at an extreme angle and is heavily loaded with a large amount of weight. These cornering fatigue tests exceed all stresses from normal road use, but are designed to meet standards developed by SAE, Society of Automotive Engineers.

Many tests are applied to the wheels to ensure both the reliability of a wheel and the safety of passengers. Dynamic cornering fatigue testing is the most widely used fatigue performance evaluation method for passenger car wheels. This test method is mainly applied to the wheel by stretching and twisting the spokes of the wheel with an oscillating force applied at the distal end of a shaft attached to the offset surface of the wheel.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides wheel rotary bending fatigue testing services within the scope of GMW 14341 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
