FORD WSS-M15P32-C Floor Mount, Closed Boot Cover

The FORD WSS-M15P32-C standard, developed by Ford Motor Company (FORD), defines the minimum durability and performance requirements for all carpeted luggage or cargo compartment flooring components, in which various materials are combined to provide a flooring assembly with decorative or functional properties. This standard includes: rear seat back lining, trunk lid lining and spare tire linings in closed luggage compartment applications (exposed cargo compartment applications are outside the scope of this standard).

The mentioned standard is used together with another FORD standard, “FORD WSS-M99P1111-A Standard requirements for production materials”.

The FORD WSS-M15P32-C standard is based on performance and has no approved sources.

All test values ​​are based on material conditioned for not less than 23 hours prior to testing in a controlled environment at 2 plus/minus 50 degrees and 5 percent plus/minus 24 percent relative humidity. Testing of the material is done in the conditioning environment or immediately after removal.

In addition to the requirements defined in this standard, individual carpet assembly components must meet all the functional requirements contained in the standard as well as all the requirements of the material specifications applicable to carpet, padding, adhesive, barrier or flooring application. Material specification requirements are mainly used for the initial qualification of materials.

The mold with colored plastic components must meet the requirements described in the WSS-M15P4-G standard.

Painted components must meet the requirements described in standard WSS-M2P188-B1 for paint over plastic or WSS-M2P190-A for paint over metal.

Specimen size and test requirements should be based on the tables given in the standard. When production test samples are taken from an area of ​​padded carpet, as much of the padding should be stripped as possible prior to evaluation, unless otherwise specified.

The main materials used in closed luggage covers are:

• Polycarbonate: It is a lightweight, temperature resistant, flexible and bendable material.
• Polypropylene: It is an extremely strong and economical material.
• ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene): It is a scratch resistant, flexible and bendable material. ABS is a common thermoplastic polymer often used for injection molding applications.
