The TSH 1585G standard, developed by Toyota, describes xenon-arc lamp type test methods for accelerated weathering resistance of paint films.

One of the most important properties of the paint is its ability to maintain its performance over a long period of time in the intended service environment. The service environment is different in each case, but the ability of the paint to maintain its functions, namely aesthetics, adhesion, corrosion protection and mechanical performance, is still required.
Vehicles that are predominantly in open environments are subjected to one of the harshest service environments for pavements. Exposure to solar radiation, temperature fluctuations, rain, snow, and environmental spray (acid rain) will strain the performance of most pavements. To achieve long-term performance in cars exposed to such environments, paints require resistance to degradation by UV radiation, resistance to hydrolysis, and resistance to rain and snow erosion.
The durability of a paint is typically evaluated by exposure to selected outdoor locations to measure the paint's real-world performance. Natural exposure in the open air is a reliable method of assessment, while natural exposure provides little acceleration. Paint may last longer in a less harsh environment, but the failure mode may vary as environmental loads vary considerably from location to location in the space. Therefore, it is impractical to develop paint using natural outdoor exposure.
The test method described in the TSH 1585G standard includes a method for determining the resistance of paint films to high humidity conditions. This method is applied to coatings on non-porous base materials such as metal. This test method provides an indication of performance where continuous condensation occurs on the surface. During this test, coated test sample pieces are examined in constant or varying condensate environments. At the end of the moisture tests, the coated parts, the deterioration of the coating such as bubbling, staining, softening, wrinkling and brittleness, and deterioration in the base material are examined.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides xenon-arc lamp type testing services for the accelerated weathering resistance of paint film, within the scope of TSH 1585G standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
