The HES D6508 standard, developed by Honda Motor Company, describes a test procedure for determining the resistance of automobile interior materials to fogging.

Through the fogging test to the car interior decoration materials, the volatile substances of these materials are controlled to effectively reduce the environmental contamination inside the cars. For this reason, the fogging test has become an important tool for automotive manufacturers as well as companies producing automobile interior decoration materials to control product quality.
Currently, the relevant local and international fogging test standards for car interior decoration include three types of test methods: reflectometric method, gravimetric method and haze method.
Generally, a fogging device is used in fogging tests. A sample is placed under the sample press at the bottom of a glass beaker immersed in a constant temperature oil bath. The beaker is covered with an oil and higher temperature resistant fluorine seal ring, the fogging carrier (pos. G), filter paper, cooling plate are placed up in order. Substances emitted from the skin sample under heat condense on the cooling plate.
For the three methods listed above, the test equipment is the same, except for the G position. For reflectometric and fogging method, part G is a fogging glass plate. Test results are obtained by measuring the opacity or fogging value of the glass plate before and after the test. Position G in the gravimetric method is an aluminum foil with a slightly larger circular glass plate 3 mm thick placed on top of it. The test results of this method are obtained by measuring the amount of condensation that forms on a cold surface.
The reflectometric method and the haze method are similar and both are used to test the optical properties of the glass plate. If the users attach great importance to the deterioration of vision caused by the volatile substance from the interior decoration condensed on the windshield of the car, these two methods are applied. If users attach more importance to the effect of hazardous volatile substances on human health, this time gravimetric method is applied.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides test services for the fogging of interior materials in automobiles, within the scope of Honda HES D6508 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
