Renault 16-00-003 Plastic Parts - General Requirements

Renault 16-00-003 Plastic Parts - General Requirements

The standard "Renault 16-00-003 Plastic parts - General requirements", developed by the French automobile company Renault, describes the requirements for parts made entirely or partially of plastics using a thermoplastic or thermosetting conversion process, whether flexible or rigid, compact or lightweight, reinforced or unreinforced. However, the following are outside the scope of this standard:

Renault 16-00-003 Plastic Parts - General Requirements

  • Parts made of cellular materials
  • Predefined parts with a specific specification
  • Interior parts (such as passenger compartment, luggage compartment) and cockpit parts
  • Parts made of thermoplastic rubber

The requirements contained in this standard are the minimum requirements for plastic parts where no specific standard exists for the part in question. The requirements contained in specific standards shall comply with the requirements of this standard, with exceptions. Specific standards may refer to this standard, particularly for general conditions and for the manufacture of parts.

Some parts, due to their function, must meet additional requirements that may appear on the drawing (special specifications) or may be the subject of an additional product standard that appears on the drawing, for example decorated parts (painted, metallized and similar).

Parts are assigned to one of four categories that represent the part location on the vehicle and its operating conditions.

Supplier responsibility is explained as follows:

  • Products must meet the alliance new product quality procedure requirements.
  • Suppliers must submit a reliability prediction analysis file (fault trees, calculated estimates based on data banks, etc.).
  • The principles of the standard “00-10-415 General requirements for the manufacture and supply of products” apply entirely to the current standard, unless there are clear and written instructions to the contrary.
  • The supplier must use and comply with the interface agreements defined by Renault.
  • The responsibility for multi-supplier interfaces is defined in the commitment letter sent between Renault and its suppliers or by the Renault Purchasing Department.
  • The supplier must inform the Renault Group, through its experience, of the risks of not complying with the interfaces and the restrictions to which the part is subject.
  • Renault communicates environmental restrictions to the supplier.

The supplier must inform Renault Purchasing of the means implemented to guarantee the quality of the components and their monitoring, especially for parts for which the manufacturer is not the parts supplier.

The verification procedure is defined by a joint agreement between the supplier and the Renault group. It should include the various tests listed, the operator, the verifier and the deadline for each test, using the verification plan as a support. If there are multiple sites with similar practices for the same product type and the same variant, the reliability check can only be performed on the most restrictive practice.

The selectivity of the verification procedure tests does not exempt the supplier from responding to all product standards. The part appearance (colour, texture, etc.) must be verified by the Renault Group. The verified parts signed by the design verification officer are kept for reference and will prevail in the event of a dispute.

The supplier must notify the Renault Group of any changes in its material suppliers and ensure that the parts thus produced comply with the product standards defining them. If the appearance criterion is affected by this change, a new design validation is required.

Renault reserves the right to take samples from series parts that may be subjected to all or part of the test programme required by the current standard or the specific part standard. It may also take samples from those required by additional standards in special cases. The definition and frequency of control tests must be defined in accordance with the part standard and the supplier's quality assurance plan.

Unless there are specific provisions defined by Renault, the principles of standard 00-10-415 must be applied. In addition, during the pre-verification phase, the supplier must present to the Renault Group the packaging ranges it plans to apply. The parts must be delivered in packaging in accordance with the model agreed between the Renault Group and the supplier. They must be protected against each other to prevent any deterioration. Large parts must be delivered in containers with arrangements to ensure their stability during transport and storage and to prevent any deformation. In order to guarantee the necessary dimensional and visual characteristics, a minimum delay must be taken between the production of the parts and their packaging.

Parts fixed with adhesive must be capable of being subjected to reactivation or heat conditioning without any deterioration in dimensional or appearance characteristics, as specified in the procedures published by Groupe Renault.

Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from every sector with its testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies carried out in a wide range for years, has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. In this context, testing services in accordance with the "Renault 16-00-003 Plastic parts - General requirements" standard are also provided to businesses.
