Fixing Performance of Hyundai Kia MS822-01 Flexible Clips
Developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturer in Korea, the “ Hyundai Kia MS822-01 Flexible Clip Fastening Performance” standard describes a procedure for determining the fastening performance of flexible clips.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
- Insertion force refers to the force required to insert the target fastener into the panel hole.
- Ejection force refers to the force required to remove the target fastener from the panel hole.
- Flexible clip is a typical fastener used for fixing door jamb, post jamb and similar parts. It can be fixed to the panel after fixing the jamb slot hole on the doghouse. The dimensions can be changed depending on the part.
The requirements in this standard are described as follows:
- In terms of external appearance, there should be no defects, uneven gloss, silver lines, flow marks, welding lines, collapse marks or other defects on the surface of the parts.
- The test panel must be made and tested as specified in this standard. There should be no deformation in the panel after the test.
- For performance, the part shall be tested in accordance with the test method specified in this standard and shall meet the test requirements in the table titled “Flexible clip detailed performance requirements”. The test sample shall be manufactured in the same way as the production method of the mass production product.
Flexible clip detailed performance requirements are given in the table for Type A, Type B, Type C, Type D, Type E and Type F based on insertion force, removal force, re-insertion force, re-removal force and waterproof performance.
The test methods defined in this standard include:
- General condition: Laboratory standard condition is 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees temperature and 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity. The sample should be conditioned in the laboratory environment for at least 24 hours before testing. Each test is carried out with 7 samples and the arithmetic average of 5 values is taken, excluding the highest and lowest value (waterproof test is carried out with 5 samples). Standard test panel should be made of steel. Standard panel shape and size are shown in the standard.
- Insertion force: The panel defined in the standard is used and the “MS800-01 Test method for plastic fasteners” standard is complied with.
- Removal force: The panel defined in the standard is used and the “MS800-01 Test method for plastic fasteners” standard is complied with.
- Repeat insertion force: The panel defined in the standard is used and the “MS800-01 Test method for plastic fasteners” standard is complied with.
- Repetition removal force: The panel defined in the standard is used and the “MS800-01 Test method for plastic fasteners” standard is complied with.
- Waterproof performance: The panel defined in the standard is used and complies with the “MS800-01 Test method for plastic fastener” standard. The test time is 1 hour, and the chamber size is width X depth X height (200mm, 200mm, 300mm).
Fasteners (clips) are vital in the automotive industry. Responsible for supporting engines, mounting bumpers, securing wheels that spin at high speeds, and attaching interior trim, vehicles often have a large number of fasteners. Choosing the right fasteners for each application requires balancing application requirements, cost, safety, lifespan, and serviceability.
Fastener is a general term that covers an incredible variety of parts used to compress, join, and hold components in an automobile. They are typically made of steel, aluminum alloys, or plastic. Metal fasteners are durable, reusable, and capable of handling heavy loads. These fasteners provide the compressive strength needed to hold components together while resisting the shear and other loads that occur during the operation of a vehicle.
Flexible clips in particular must be designed for long life. Therefore, it is important to know their performance characteristics.
