GMW 3368 Rapid Blade Adhesion Test for Fixed Glass Adhesive Materials

GMW 3368 Rapid Blade Adhesion Test for Fixed Glass Adhesive Materials

GMW 3368 standard, developed by General Motors, the company that owns brands such as Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, describes a test method to determine the compatibility of glass bonding adhesives with automotive paint and glass bonding systems. This test method is used specifically to determine the bonding capacity of low-modulus, low-durometer adhesives, such as standard glass bonding urethane.

In addition to determining the suitability of this glass adhesive for paint and glass systems, it is also used on various surfaces with or without adhesive primer.

The rapid blade adhesion test for fixed glass bonding is a qualitative screening test method that evaluates the compatibility of the adhesive / sealant to the substrate. Metal or plastic panels are sent to production to receive all layers of paint, such as primer, base and varnish. As part of the test preparation, cleaning or adhesive priming steps are performed in the laboratory according to the recommendations of the adhesive/sealant manufacturer. Test panels are 100 mm x 300 mm. Approximately 250mm of adhesive/sealant is applied as beads and allowed to cure. The bead is held and after an initial cut parallel to the substrate, cuts are made perpendicular to the surface while maintaining a constant traction on the bead. What remains of the bead on the panel is evaluated as whether the adhesive/sealant has left the paint cleanly, whether the paint has separated into layers, and whether the adhesive/sealant has left a layer on the panel.

The knife test applied to the testing of paints and coatings is actually a simple test using a simple knife. Two incisions are made on the veneer, forming a cross. Then, at one corner of this cut, the paint or coating is tried to be removed with the tip of the knife. Essentially, this test method is based on how difficult it is to remove paint or coating and the amount of paint or coating removed.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides fast blade adhesion test services for fixed glass adhesive materials, within the scope of the GMW 3368 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
