The “KIA MS341-12 Sound absorbers covered with protective coatings” standard, developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors Company, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturer in Korea, describes the requirements for sound absorbers covered with protective coatings such as non-woven fabric and plastic film used in automobile engine compartments.

This material is classified as follows in the table titled “Types and applications” given in the standard:
PET microfiber is a PET fiber produced by melt blowing process.
The general requirements in this standard are described as follows:
In terms of detailed requirements, the sound absorber shall be tested with the test methods specified in this standard and shall comply with the requirements described in this standard. Samples shall be manufactured by the same process as the parts.
In general, the standard laboratory condition for the tests is 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees and 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity. All tests are performed on samples at least 48 hours after molding and immediately thereafter at least a 24-hour conditioning period under the standard conditions specified herein.
Weight: Three samples of 300 mm × 300 mm are randomly cut. The weight and average weight per square meter are stated. At least 5 test samples should be used and the average values should be reported.
Thickness: A 100 mm × 100 mm sample is placed on the horizontal plane of the anvil. A 150 mm × 120 mm press plate weighing 120 g is placed on the sample and pressed. After ten seconds, the gap between the press plate and the anvil is measured using a caliper. The average is considered the thickness. At least 5 test samples should be used and the average values should be reported.
Normal condition: No. 1 dumbbell samples are prepared randomly. In the normal condition specified here, tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm per minute and tensile strength is determined. At least 5 test samples should be used and average values should be reported.
Heat aging resistance (long term): Five random No. 1 dumbbell samples are prepared. Aged for 200 hours at a specified temperature. The samples are allowed to stand for 60 minutes. Tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm/min and tensile strength is determined. A minimum of 5 test samples should be used and the average values should be reported.
Heat aging resistance (short term): Random No. 1 dumbbell samples are prepared. Aged for 30 minutes at a specified temperature. Samples are allowed to stand for 60 minutes. Tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm/min and tensile strength is determined. A minimum of 5 test samples should be used and average values should be reported.
Weather resistance: Complies with the standard “KIA MS210-06 Molded plastic parts - Outdoor use”. After removal, wait for 60 minutes. Apply tension at a rate of 200 mm per minute and determine the tensile strength. At least 5 test samples should be used and the average values should be reported.
Oil resistance: No. 1 dumbbell samples are prepared at random. They are immersed in a specified oil for 24 hours. After removal, they are left for 60 minutes. Tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm/min and tensile strength is determined. A minimum of 5 test samples should be used and the average values reported. Unless otherwise stated, one of the following oils is used: motor oil, kerosene, unleaded or leaded gasoline.
Chemical resistance: No 1 dumbbell samples are prepared randomly. They are immersed in a specified chemical for 24 hours. After removal, they are left for 60 minutes. Tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm per minute and tensile strength is determined. At least 5 test samples should be used and average values should be reported.
Water resistance: No 1 dumbbell samples are prepared at random. They are immersed in water at a specified temperature for 168 hours. After removal, they are left for 60 minutes. Tension is applied at a rate of 200 mm per minute and tensile strength is determined. At least 5 test samples should be used and average values should be reported.
Thermal shrinkage: Three 220 mm square samples are prepared, lines are drawn on the reverse side parallel to the sides, 10 mm in from each edge. The distance between the drawn lines is measured at 3 or more precise points and the average is taken. The samples are placed in a gear oven at the specified temperature for 200 hours. After removal, they are left for 60 minutes. The distance between the drawn lines is measured at the same point as the previously measured points and the average is taken. Then, the thermal shrinkage is calculated by the given formula.
Low temperature resistance: Prepare a 200 mm square sample as shown in the figure. Leave it in a low temperature cabinet at minus 3 degrees plus/minus 30 degrees for 2 hours or more. Apply an impact of 0,3 g at 453 m (preferably in a low temperature cabinet). Examine the sample for fracture, crack. The top of the impact part should be a sphere with a radius of 25 mm. The low temperature impact test is also applied to samples subjected to aging. At least 3 test samples should be used and the worst case of the test values should be reported.
Bloom test: Molded parts are prepared and each test is performed with 3 samples. At least 3 test samples should be used and the worst case of the test values should be reported.
Our organization has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies provided for businesses in various sectors, there are also test services in accordance with the "KIA MS341-12 Sound absorbers covered with protective coatings" standard.
