Developed by General Motors, the company that owns brands such as Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, the GMW 14444 standard specifies material-related part performance requirements for all interior components, such as instrument panel trim, side trim, floor mats, seats, consoles, and similar parts.

This standard may include hazardous materials, processes and equipment. This standard does not propose to address all relevant safety problems for its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices prior to use and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions.
Samples of components or materials released according to that standard are tested for compliance with the requirements of this standard and approved by the responsible department before delivery of production-level components or materials is started.
Any change in component or material, such as design, function, features, manufacturing process or manufacturing site, requires a new version of the product. It is the sole responsibility of the supplier company to provide the customer with the documentation of any changes or modifications made in the product or process without being requested, and to apply for a new version.
Unless otherwise agreed, all validation testing is repeated and documented by the supplier before commencing delivery of the modified product. In some cases, a shorter test can be agreed between the responsible department and the supplier.
A selected material must support part performance for all environmental conditions defined by the part's mounting location in the vehicle. Materials are tested for the worst environmental scenario for installation locations (eg exposure to direct sunlight). The temperatures in Table 1 were measured under solar glass. If non-solar glass is used, temperatures of up to 15 degrees are created and the requirements are adjusted accordingly.
Certification for flammability properties is carried out at the component or material level. Parts that meet the composite definition are certified at the composite level.
Laboratory tests must be performed by an accredited laboratory.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for material-related internal part performance, within the scope of GMW 14444 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
