Hyundai Kia MS383-04 GF Reinforced PP Expansion Plate

Hyundai Kia MS383-04 GF Reinforced PP Expansion Plate

The standard “Hyundai Kia MS383-04 GF reinforced PP expansion plate” developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors Company, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturer in Korea, describes the quality requirements of glass fiber (GF) reinforced polypropylene (PP) expansion plate. This plate is used as classified in the table titled “Material types” given in the standard or as indicated in the drawings. This material can be used with film or fabric or other auxiliary materials to prevent adhesion and exposure to glass fiber (GF).

The classification was made as follows:

  • Type A: 920 plus/minus 50 g/m2 (tfront floor
  • Type B1: 1.650 plus/minus 50 g/m2 (ground under cover)
  • Type B2: 1.300 plus/minus 100 g/m2(ground under cover)
  • Type B3: 1.200 plus/minus 60 g/m2(ground under cover)

The part manufacturing method must comply with the “MS201-01 Material marking for automotive parts” standard.

In terms of general requirements, parts using this material must comply with all requirements of the relevant assembly performance specification. The chemical composition and processing conditions that may affect the quality of the parts must not be changed inappropriately. Before changing the chemical composition of the material, consultation with the material and quality control department should be carried out. The final parts made of this material must be free from defects, irregular gloss and surface, burn marks, warpage, cracks, irregular color, flow marks or other defects.

This material shall be tested by the methods specified in this standard and shall conform to the requirements specified in the table entitled “Detailed requirements” in the standard. Samples are produced by the same process as the parts.

The detailed requirements in this standard are described as follows:

  • Pano
    • Flexural strength
    • Flexural modulus
    • Dimension change
  • Part / assembly
    • Tensile strength
    • Flexural strength
    • Flexural modulus
    • Dimension change
    • Peel resistance
    • Thermal cycling resistance
    • Fade resistance rating
    • misting
    • Smell
    • Flammable property
    • Air resistance
    • Heavy metals and harmful substances

In Type A assessment, the sheet is determined according to the pre-molding condition, and the new material manufacturer and new specification (e.g. weight change) are evaluated. When evaluating the sheets, the thickness is based on 3 mm. For existing mass production products, test pieces are collected from the parts/assembly after molding and evaluated. The thickness is the measured value of the sheet in the part/assembly. In Type B1 and Type B2 assessment, the tensile strength is measured at 2 mm thickness and other elements are measured based on 5 mm. Type B3 all products are evaluated based on 2 mm thickness. When necessary, the test target and evaluation requirements are selected in consultation with the relevant teams.

In case of the connection of dashboard material to fabrics, leathers, foams, pads and similar parts/assemblies, all the characteristics of each vehicle are evaluated. For example, in case of using knitted and suede fabric for a certain car, the test should be evaluated separately.

In this standard, test methods are described as follows:

  • General condition: The standard condition of the laboratory is 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees temperature and 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity. All tests shall be performed on samples at least 48 hours after molding and immediately following a conditioning period of at least 24 hours in the specified standard condition.
  • Thickness: Five 100 × 100 mm samples are prepared from the panel. At least 5 test samples should be used and the average test values should be reported.
  • Weight: Three 300 × 300 mm samples are prepared from the panel and weighed. At least 5 test samples should be used and the average test values should be reported.
  • Tensile strength: Must comply with the "ASTM D638-08 Standard test method for tensile properties of plastics" standard. At least 5 test samples must be used and average test values must be reported.
  • Flexural strength and flexural modulus: “A It should comply with STM D790-17 “Standard test methods for flexural properties of unreinforced and reinforced plastics and electrical insulating materials” standard. At least 5 test specimens should be used and the average test values should be reported. Specimen size is 50 × 150 mm, span length: 100 mm, test speed: 5 mm/min. In case of Type A, the load is applied to the skin surface and in case of Type B, the load is applied from the body surface to the road surface direction. The flexural strength and flexural modulus are calculated by the formula given in the standard.
  • Dimensional change: Three 300 × 300 mm samples are randomly prepared from the board. 50 × 200 mm square reference lines are drawn 200 mm away from the relevant edges and parallel to these edges. The distance between the two parallel lines drawn at three points is measured and the average is recorded as the original distance. Dimensional change is calculated by the formula given in the standard and the result is expressed as an absolute value.
  • Peel strength: 200 × 25 mm samples are taken from the finished product (part / assembly) in the longitudinal and transverse directions respectively. It is tested at a speed of 50 mm/min in the opposite direction, and the peel strength is found. Then the skin or pad material is peeled off by 70 mm with force and fixed on the tensile testing machine, and the peel strength is measured at a speed of 50 mm/min. The peel strength is the median of the section with uniform load distribution, excluding the initial 20 mm intended peel section. When measuring the peel strength, the peel length should be 100 mm. The grip distance is 70 mm. At least 5 test samples are used, and the average test values are reported. The peel strength is calculated by the formula given in the standard.
  • Thermal cycling resistance: The assembly (glass fiber composite, pad and leather) is placed in the same service condition as the vehicle and three thermal cycles are run. Check for hiss, blisters, leather, deformation, excessive discoloration in appearance, as well as looseness or rattle at the connection point (screw, fastener, hot melt, wiring, foam, pads and clip). At least 3 test specimens should be used and the worst case of the test values should be reported. A thermal cycle consists of the steps described in the standard.
  • Fade resistance: Must comply with the standard “MS 210-05 Molded plastic parts - Internal”. Then, the test is carried out under the conditions described in the standard. At least 3 test specimens should be used and the worst case test values should be reported.
  • Fogging: Must comply with the “MS 300-54 Standard test method - Fogging” standard.
  • Odor: Must comply with the “MS 300-34 Odor test method for interior materials” standard.
  • Flammability: Must comply with the standard “MS 300-08 Standard test method - Flammability resistance for interior materials”.
  • Air resistance: Must comply with the “MS 300-31 Standard test methods - Leather, A/Leather and linen” standard.

When the materials are supplied to the first and practical products, the test report is submitted to the relevant teams. When the material, processing condition and suppliers are changed, the test report should also be submitted.
