Developed by General Motors, the GMW 14729 standard describes two high humidity test options (water mist and wet floor test methods) typically used to evaluate the effect of high humidity environments on coated substrates. This effect is usually measured by testing physical and mechanical properties before and after exposure.

The standard offers three test options:
For the water fog test method, a fog/environmental chamber is used. Proper water supply is provided in accordance with ASTM D1193-91 standard specification standard for reactive water, Type IV. A properly conditioned compressed air source is used.
For the wet floor test method, the instrument requires the climate chamber defined in the standard ISO 6270-2 Paints and varnishes - Determination of moisture resistance - Part 2: Condensation (indoor exposure with a heated water tank). During the moisture cycles that make up the wet bottom, visible water droplets should be present on the samples to confirm proper wetness.
The non-condensing humidity test method requires a mechanical climate chamber that uses an external water vapor and humidity system to supply steam for testing the interior flooring. Non-condensing moisture is vapor that will leave a random droplet of inconsistent wet film on the surface as opposed to condensing moisture which will leave a consistent wet film with permanent water droplets on the surface.
Option C should only be used if specifically required in the material specification. If no option is specified in the material specification, Option A or B should be used.
In the water mist test method, the test temperature should be 38 degrees and the humidity should be about 100 percent.
In the wet sole test method, the test temperature should be 40 degrees and the humidity should be about 100 percent.
In the non-condensation (random droplet inconsistent wet film) test method, the test temperature and humidity must be defined in the material specification. If no condition is specified, the temperature should be 40 degrees and the humidity approximately 100 percent.
Our organization also provides high humidity testing services within the scope of GMW 14729 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
