The standard “Hyundai Kia MS633-01 Decorative anodizing process for aluminum alloys” developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors describes the performance requirements for interior and exterior aluminum automotive parts that undergo decorative anodizing.

Anodized coatings are classified according to their application scopes as specified in the table given in the standard:
Anodized coating types vary depending on automotive parts and vehicle types, and if needed, consultation with the relevant units is necessary.
Anoic oxidation coatings drawing is indicated in the table.
The product can be mechanically, chemically, and electrochemically polished to provide a variety of textures prior to anodizing. It can also be chemically etched to provide varying degrees of gloss, from a completely matt finish to a smooth finish.
The color and gloss of the finished part must conform to the specifications for visual inspection of the appearance elements determined by the materials and quality inspection departments.
In order to achieve the specified corrosion resistance in terms of sealing, the pores must be closed.
If post-surface treatment is to be applied for high durability, discussions should be held with the materials and quality control departments.
Visual inspection should reveal parts free of substrate exposure, blemishes, swelling, abrasions, cracks, and burn spots. Burn spots are thick, dusty areas of anodic oxidation produced by current concentration due to localized overheating during anodization.
Coating thickness must be measured in accordance with this standard. The coating thickness must meet the required quality in the table. The average thickness value should be at least 3 (µm) for transparent anodized coatings and at least 5 (µm) for colored anodized coatings.
Adhesion must be tested according to this standard. After testing, the parts must be free of discoloration and the exfoliation degree must be M2.5 or greater. If testing on actual parts is not possible due to small space, the number of crosscuts or gaps can be reduced.
Salt spray testing for corrosion resistance must be performed in accordance with this standard. The test duration depends on the application and is specified in the table. After the salt spray test, the parts should show no base metal corrosion and only slight, unobjectionable changes in surface appearance. After the test, they should be better than the 9 rating as shown in ISO 8993.
Moisture resistance testing of internal parts should be carried out for the test period specified in the table. After testing, the parts should be free of base metal corrosion and show only a slight, unobjectionable change in surface appearance.
Moisture resistance testing of external parts should be carried out for the test period specified in the table. After testing, the parts should show no base metal corrosion and only a slight, unobjectionable change in surface appearance.
Internal parts must be tested for fading according to this standard. Color coatings must not fade within the test time specified in the table.
Weatherometer testing of exterior parts must be performed in accordance with this standard. Color coatings must not fade within the test period specified in the table.
Internal parts should be tested for chemical resistance according to this standard. After testing, the parts should show no base metal corrosion and only a slight, unobjectionable change in surface appearance.
External parts should be tested for alkali resistance according to this standard. A 0,1 N sodium hydroxide solution should be dripped onto test specimens for 24 hours at a temperature of 22°C (+/- 4°C) and a relative humidity of 50% (+/- 5%), followed by rinsing with water and air drying. After testing, the parts should show no base metal corrosion and only a slight, unobjectionable change in surface appearance.
External parts should be tested for acid resistance according to this standard. A 0,2 N sulfuric acid solution should be dripped onto test samples at 22°C (+/- 4°C) and 50% (+/- 5%) relative humidity for 24 hours, then rinsed with water and air-dried. After testing, the parts should show no base metal corrosion and only a slight, unobjectionable change in surface appearance.
Internal parts must be tested for wear resistance according to this standard. After 10000 wear tests, the parts must show no unobjectionable change in the base metal or surface appearance.
Scratch resistance on exterior parts must be tested according to this standard. The gloss retention rate after testing must be at least 55 percent. Gloss-retaining parts are molded for exterior decoration (excluding paint pretreatment).
Exterior parts (especially the exterior emblem) must be tested for crack resistance according to this standard. After testing, the flaking area must not exceed 2 mm in diameter. Parts that retain their gloss are molded for exterior decoration (excluding paint pretreatment).
The leakage test must be carried out in accordance with this standard. The maximum acceptable mass loss of the coatings must not exceed 30 mg/dm2.
Prohibition of harmful substances must meet the requirement of Hyundai MS201-02 standard.
The test methods defined in this standard are:
