The standard “MAN M 3082 Preservatives for commercial vehicles – Technical conditions for delivery” developed by the automotive company MAN specifies the requirements for preservatives used as one- or two-layer protective coatings for long-term delivery and maintenance preservation or transport and storage preservation of vehicles, large assemblies, units, components, raw parts and semi-finished products.

This standard applies to all parts of the MAN 239 standard series. These standards specify the release conditions and procedures as well as the general delivery conditions for purchased parts. The supplier must produce a material data sheet for the material in the international material data system and submit it as part of the material approval process. Permission is granted only after agreement with the central material technology or standardization department.
The corrosion inhibitors described in this standard consist of hydrocarbon solvents and waxes and other property-improving agents dispersed in aqueous systems, 100 percent solids waxes and other property-improving agents (solvent-free), and acrylate and epoxy resin-based preservatives. According to current legal regulations, these materials do not require labeling. They are also classified as hazard class A II (Class 3, Division 3) under the flammable liquids regulation.
Preservatives, solvents and protective waxes must not attack metals, plastics, paints and varnishes or rubber parts.
When processing two-layer protective materials, only products from the same supplier may be used for compatibility and warranty reasons. Quality standard M 3611 must be used for the assessment of underbody protection.
Types, usage and explanation of terms are explained in the table provided in the standard.
Single-coat protective agents are corrosion inhibitors that are applied in a single coat and form a crack- and pore-free, touch-resistant and partially wax-type protective film after evaporation of the solvent.
Two-coat sealants are two-coat corrosion inhibitor systems consisting of a lower, high creep penetration wax (Type P) that remains soft and an upper, crack and pore-free and touch-resistant sealing wax (Type S).
Delivery and maintenance protection refers to additional protective measures used to improve the long-term corrosion protection of new vehicles or large assemblies or maintenance and repair work carried out by the service by means of corrosion protection systems. Such temporary corrosion protection is not removed before the vehicle is put into service. Transport and storage protection is an additional protective measure to improve the corrosion protection of semi-finished products, raw parts, finished parts, units, large assemblies and vehicles required during the period of mass production and spare parts supply and transport and storage, by subsequent treatment with corrosion protection agents. These protection systems are usually removed before further processing, coating, assembly or commissioning of the vehicle.
According to the DIN EN ISO 1514 standard, test plates are coated under standard conditions in accordance with the tables given in the standard. The coating is applied to the burr side of the test plates, including the edge areas. Unless otherwise stated, test samples should be stored at room temperature for 7 days after the respective coating and before starting the tests.
The basic features and requirements are included in a separate table within the standard:
In the adhesion test at minus 30 degrees, the test plate, which is conditioned at room temperature for 72 plus/minus 4 hours, is stored in a cold cabinet at minus 30 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees for 4 hours. The test plate is bent 3 degrees on a 70 mm diameter mandrel within 180 seconds with the protective film on the outside. Within the next 2 seconds, the surface of the protective film is visually inspected for cracks.
In the flow tendency test, the penetration wax is allowed to dry (15 minutes) before the sealing wax is applied. After application, the corrosion inhibitor is dried according to the manufacturer's specifications. The test is carried out at 100 degrees for 166 hours (vertical plate).
In the steam spray resistance test, water steam at 10 degrees is sprayed for 60 seconds at a spray distance of 60 cm. The expectation is that there will be no signs of separation in any system.
In the stone impact resistance test, the test cycle is as follows:
The expectation is that there will be no visible penetration into the substrate.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the standard “MAN M 3082 Protective substances for commercial vehicles - Delivery technical conditions” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
In temperature cycling testing, the temperature cycling test and requirements are included in a table within the standard.
