In the FORD WSS-M3H120-A2 standard, the material defined is a needle-punched random velvet non-woven carpet of good quality and homogeneous composition. This material is back fused for better wear resistance.

These standards are used together with another FORD standard, “FORD WSS-M99P1111-A Standard requirements for production materials”.

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic addition polymer produced from the combination of propylene monomers. This material is used in a variety of applications, including plastic parts, special devices such as movable hinges, and textiles for various industries, including the automotive industry. It is one of the most produced plastics in the world today.

In the automotive industry, polypropylene is commonly used for bumpers, chemical tanks, cable insulation, and gas canisters. Polypropylene is also frequently used as a thermoplastic binder component for natural fiber composites. It is also used in door panels, consoles, seat backs, trunk linings, and many other vehicle applications. Polypropylene, along with natural fibers, offers an alternative to fiberglass, exhibiting excellent environmental performance, good thermal properties, and high durability.

Carpets in the car are not just for the comfort of the vehicle. It includes sound insulation, impact absorption, good color fastness, moisture, anti-fouling, anti-mildew, flame-retardant and many more. Low-grade carpets are generally post-dipped type polypropylene fiber carpets. In high-end vehicles, needle-punched velvet carpets are generally used.
