Renault 39-09-005 Rubans Automatic Adhesives Double Face

The “Renault 39-09-005 Rubans auto adhesives double-sided” standard, developed by the French automobile company Renault, describes the characteristics required for double-sided self-adhesive tapes that allow the attachment of installed parts to the interior or exterior of the vehicle body or to other specified parts on the body.

Renault 39-09-005 Rubans Automatic Adhesives Double Face

This standard applies to tapes delivered to Renault as well as to adhesive tapes attached to parts delivered to Renault (such as wheel covers, monograms, ribbons). Double-sided self-adhesive tapes are classified according to their functions and categories, depending on the type of connection to be made:

  • Function no. 1 - Category 1: Fastening of highly stressed external parts provided only by adhesive (e.g. protective wheel covers, monograms, stripes)
  • Function no. 1 - Category 2: Fastening of light and lightly stressed external parts in addition to positive fixings (e.g. monograms, roof lining strips, partially trimmed joints)
  • Function no. 1 - Category 3: Fixing of light exterior parts only with adhesive (e.g. small monograms, names, lower part of the step)
  • Function no. 2: Fastening of interior parts (e.g. monograms on the front panel, various trims)
  • Function no. 3: Temporary fixing of adhesive parts (e.g. awning grid seals, police plate support)

In terms of the supplier's liability, the provisions of the standard “Renault 00-10-415 Production and supply of products - General conditions” apply fully to this standard, unless expressly stated otherwise in writing.

When requesting approval, the supplier must provide Renault with a sufficient number of product samples to perform all the tests required by this standard. This sample must be accompanied by a complete and accurate inspection report as well as a safety data sheet.

Before any changes are made to the tapes, the supplier must submit a new inspection report, consisting of the results of the tests performed on the modified tapes as required by this standard. Self-adhesive tapes must be in roll form with a minimum tape width of 12 mm unless otherwise specified.

Double-sided self-adhesive tapes can bond painted body sheets, painted or unpainted plastics, aluminum, chrome or stainless steel, rubber and the like.

The nature of the front and back support is defined in the functional plan of the part to be bonded. It must correspond to the actual supports of the intended application:

  • Painted main support (where the part is attached), if any
  • Steel sheet coated with electroplating after baking
  • Steel sheet, coated with any final finish, whether varnished or not, catalyzed or not, metallized or not, after baking, in accordance with the requirements of the “Renault 46-07-001 Hot sprayable and crosslinkable top coat paints” standard and approved by the Renault company.
  • Glass
  • Aluminum
  • Stainless steel sheet (reference support)
  • Polycarbonate and polyethylene glycol terephthalate alloy
  • Polyurethane
  • Ethylene propylene diene modified polypropylene
  • Thermosetting polyester, smooth, dyed or undyed
  • Mineral fillers containing polypropylene
  • Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene
  • An ABS/polyvinyl chloride blend

For tests involving adhesion, and unless specifically recommended by the supplier, tapes must be installed in accordance with the requirements of the Renault standard 39-09-539 test procedure.
