The MBN LV 124 standard, developed by Mercedes Benz Company, consists of the following two parts under the main title "Electrical and electronic components in passenger vehicles up to 3,5 tons - General requirements, test conditions and test methods":
The LV 2013 standard, which was jointly prepared in 124 by German automotive manufacturers, especially Mercedes Benz, is a quality and reliability test standard. Compliance with these standards is required for all suppliers of German original equipment manufacturers. On the other hand, these standards apply to in-vehicle electrical components using a 12 Volt electrical system (electrical, electronic and mechatronic components and systems).
Condensation testing with assemblies performed under this standard simulates condensation on in-vehicle electronic components (assemblies). It is used to evaluate the resistance of electronic devices to condensation. During the condensation phase, the temperature of a special-purpose water bath is controlled and the test chamber's relative humidity is maintained between 95 percent and 100 percent (climate control is turned off for air temperature and humidity).
The life test (temperature cycle test) performed under this standard simulates in a compact format the thermal load on a component due to temperature changes over the vehicle's service life. This test serves to verify the quality and reliability of a component as a result of failures due to thermomechanical loads. The test exposes the sample to a temperature gradient of 4 degrees/minute. The ability to perform advanced temperature changes is required.
Many tests, including temperature, humidity, condensation and splash tests, are carried out in advanced laboratories within the scope of the LV 124 standard.
