GMW 16005 Adhesion Requirements for Modular, Encapsulated Glass Assemblies
In the GMW 16005 standard developed by the General Motors company, which includes brands such as Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet, for example, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), reaction injection molded, ethylene propylene diene, thermoplastic elastomer and similar encapsulation material for the bonding system for adhesion performance to glass in a modular glass assembly. requirements are explained.

The requirements are given in this standard as follows:
- All samples will be conditioned to the GMW 3221 standard (GMW 3221 Standard conditioning of organic materials) prior to each requirement testing.
- Production parts (test samples) should be used to verify the capability of the intended part materials and process.
- For each test performed, namely the tensile test and the rapid blade adhesion test, a total of 25 modular glass assemblies, five per medium, should be used.
- A universal tensile tester capable of maintaining a jaw separation rate of 10 mm/min and showing a load of at least 2000 N should be used.
- The clamping device should be used as described in the standard.
- Conditioning room / equipment capable of maintaining the environments described in the standard should be used.
- Protective (heat resistant) gloves should be used to work with exposed parts.
- In the tensile test, a 50mm length of the encapsulation material must be isolated from the surrounding encapsulation by cutting the molding material into the glass surface
- The maximum load and failure mode at break should be recorded.
- The bond between the encapsulation material and the glass should exceed 890 N when tested according to this method. In addition to the minimum charge, the resulting separation mode of the system will either be cohesive within the encapsulating material or adhesive system. The recovery temperature should be recorded during testing.
- In the modified rapid blade adhesion test, production parts are used to verify the capability of the material and process intended for this method.
- A flat section of encapsulation material is separated from the rest of the encapsulation by cutting the material at 90 degrees with respect to the plane of the glass. It is cut from planer to glass with a lengthwise cut along the edge of the glass for at least 150 mm.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services for adhesion requirements of modular, encapsulated glass assemblies under the GMW 16005 standard, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
