The “Nissan NES M0134 Falling ball impact test methods for synthetic resin parts” standard developed by Nissan Automobile Company describes the falling ball impact test methods for plastic parts of automobiles.

These test methods should be divided into two classes:
The low temperature controlled room should be in the condition of minus 30 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees or minus 40 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees
The room temperature condition should be the standard temperature condition (8703 degrees to 15 degrees) and the standard humidity condition Class 25 (20 percent to 45 percent relative humidity) specified in the standard “JIS Z 85 Standard atmospheric conditions for test location”.
The low temperature controlled room should be able to maintain the specified low temperature test conditions. The temperature control should remain within plus/minus 2 degrees. In terms of cooling capacity, the interior of the room should be able to be cooled to the preset temperature by the test piece and apparatus placed inside.
In falling ball impact tests, the equipment shown in the figure given in the standard is used. This equipment consists of a support column, steel ball holder, apparatus stand, steel ball and similar parts that will allow correct positioning of the impact point. However, if necessary, the steel ball free fall impact method shown in the figure, which uses a thin-walled cylinder to correctly guide the ball, may be used. The base of the cylinder should not touch the test piece.
The steel ball used in the tests can be of three types described in the standard “JIS B 1501 Steel ball for ball bearings”:
Again, the cushioning material used in these tests should be low-pressure foaming urethane and should be of the following two types:
Normally, these tests use a finished product that is mounted in the vehicle position and has a position similar to the actual position. A finished product is a fully molded part that can be secondary machined and assembled with other parts.
Test conditions are divided into ten types according to the mounting position of the parts, as shown in the table given in the standard.
When testing, the test piece is placed on the stand in the vehicle position in a position similar to the actual situation shown in the figures in the standard. The specified cushioning material is placed on the weakest part of the test piece under the test conditions. The steel ball is allowed to fall freely and hit the test piece. The weakest area is obtained in advance from the impact test at various points obtained from previous tests. The strength guide for the position is determined and the specified test is carried out.
For the low temperature falling ball impact test, in principle, the test piece is placed in the low temperature chamber and left for a predetermined time, and then a test is performed. However, after being removed from the chamber, the impact test should be performed within 30 seconds. The room temperature and humidity should be recorded during the impact test. If the low temperature impact test is performed outside the low temperature chamber, the temperature and humidity in the chamber are used for reference.
The test pieces shall be free from abnormalities such as cracks or breakage. Specific details shall be determined by agreement between the parties concerned for each piece and condition and shall be indicated on the drawing.
Performance guarantee for each functional part should be included in the detail drawing. There should be no cracks, breaks or harmful deformation on the outer surface. There should be no functional change before the test. There should be no difficulty in opening or closing.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides certification and testing services defined in the “Nissan NES M0134 Falling ball impact test methods for synthetic resin parts” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
