KIA ES05206-00 Sheet Metal Press Machining Dimensional Tolerances
The standard “KIA ES05206-00 Dimensional tolerances of sheet metal stamping” developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturer in Korea, describes the general dimensional tolerances of dimensions not specified by numbers or symbols for stamping dimensional tolerances of sheet metal with a thickness of 12 mm or less. This standard does not apply to non-metals. Dimensional tolerances on hand-processed sheet metal shall comply with the standard “KIA ES05209-00 General dimensional tolerance - Sheet metal stamping”.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
- The cutting width is the distance between one edge cut with a pair of scissors and the opposite side.
- The cutting length is the length of an edge cut with a pair of scissors.
- Straightness is the maximum deviation from the ideal straight line connecting both ends of the cut line when a product is placed on a flat plane.
- Squareness: If the product is placed on a plane and the long edge of the product is placed next to one edge of a square ruler, the other edge of the square ruler will touch the end of the short edge of the product. Flatness refers to the distance between the edge of the square ruler that touches the short edge of the product and the other end of the short edge of the product.
The measuring location of the cutting area tolerance is the cutting plane shown in the figure given in the standard.
The tolerances for dimensions, straightness and projecting area used in this standard are divided into two classes: Class 1 and Class 2. Commonly used tolerances should have Class 2.
In this standard, tolerances are explained as follows:
- The tolerance for cutting width (blank cutting and square cutting) is shown on the basis of the sheet metal thickness. These tolerances do not apply to cutting lengths exceeding 3150 mm.
- Flatness tolerance (blank cutting and square cutting) is shown on the basis of sheet metal thickness. These tolerances do not apply to cut widths less than 20 ply or 30 mm.
- Squareness tolerance (gap cut and square cut) is shown on the basis of sheet metal thickness.
- The tolerance for protruding areas is given in a separate table.
- The tolerance of the drill hole is given on a per-dimension basis, separately for Class 1 and Class 2. For circular drill holes with a diameter of 6 mm or less, the tolerance of 0 applies only to (+) and the tolerance of XNUMX applies to (-).
- Bent length tolerance, It is given separately for Class 1 and Class 2, based on dimensions.
- Tolerances for shrinkage and deburring diameters are given on a dimension basis, separately for Class 1 and Class 2 for circular and non-circular forms.
- Bending strength tolerance is given on the basis of bending radius, separately for Class 1 and Class 2.
- The tolerance of the bending radius is given on the basis of individual dimensions for Class 1 and Class 2, depending on the thickness of the sheet metal.
- The tolerance for the depth of connection is given on a per-dimension basis for Class 1 and Class 2, depending on the thickness of the sheet metal. This table applies to those having a connection angle of 45 degrees or more or mating components such as overlapping areas of sheet metal. This table also applies to bending, shrinkage and burr depth tolerance.
- The bending width tolerance is given on a dimension basis for Class 1 and Class 2 separately, depending on the thickness of the sheet metal. This table is valid for bending depths not exceeding 30 times the sheet metal thickness. If the depth is 30 times or more, the values in parentheses apply.
- Bending, drawing and burr depth tolerances are given on the basis of dimensions separately for Class 1 and Class 2, depending on the thickness of the sheet metal. Valves on the bracket are valid for drawing and burning without upper flanges. For bending depth tolerance without flanges, the bending depth tolerance must be compatible with the bending depth tolerance.
The overall dimension tolerance should in principle be included in the designated area of the first page of the drawing. However, if this is not possible, it can be noted in the margin of the drawing note.
As vehicles evolve, the demand for high-quality automotive parts increases and sheet metal fabrication becomes increasingly important in the automotive industry.
