GMW 8081 Internal Materials Static Headspace GC-MS For Internal Emissions

GMW 8081 Internal Materials Static Headspace GC-MS For Internal Emissions

The GMW 8081 standard developed by the General Motors company defines a test method for the semi-quantitative determination of emissions for interior materials by means of headspace gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS). With emission spectra,

GMW 8081 Internal Materials Static Headspace GC-MS For Internal Emissions

  • Comparing the emissions of interior materials
  • The resulting emissions are identified
  • Relative (relative) emissions are calculated and
  • Items related to the GMW 3059 standard are defined

However, the test methods described in this standard do not replace applicable laws and regulations.

The test method described in this standard is designed to evaluate the emission trends of all interior and ventilation system materials. With this test method, the relative degree of emission affected by volatile organic compounds, released under conditions of high ambient temperatures, and then remaining in the indoor air is determined.

All interior parts are covered by this standard, including HVAC ducts, body cladding, and insulation that allows airflow to the interior. All parts with inflow of air that have an area greater than 50 cm square or weigh more than 10 grams must be tested. For parts with an area less than 50 cm square or weighing less than 10 grams, but which will be used several times in a vehicle, the following rule applies: the area or weight of the part is multiplied by the number of parts, if the resulting area is greater than 50 square cm or the weight is 10 grams, the part is tested. The results obtained provide supplementary information for the GMW 15634 and GMW 3205 standards.

Headspace analysis is an applied method to sample and examine volatiles associated with a solid or liquid sample. The actual headspace itself is the volume of vapor or gas above the sample.

Many products and biological samples consist of a wide variety of compounds that differ in molecular weight, polarity, and volatility. For complex samples like this, headspace sampling is the fastest and cleanest method of analyzing volatile organic compounds.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of the GMW 8081 standard, interior materials through headspace gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It also provides testing services for semi-quantitative determination of emissions.
