GMW 3221 Standard Conditioning of Organic Materials

GMW 3221 Standard Conditioning of Organic Materials

A general procedure to be used for standard conditioning of organic materials is defined in the GMW 3221 standard, which was developed by the General Motors company, which includes brands such as Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. Conditioning these materials under standard temperature and humidity conditions helps to achieve repeatable and comparable test results.

Alternative testing facilities and equipment may also be used. However, all measurement variables specified in this standard are accurately determined according to their physical definitions.

The conditioning environment temperature control equipment used in the tests is air circulation heating or cooling equipment that can maintain an environment with a temperature of 22 degrees plus / minus 3 degrees. Conditioning environment humidity control equipment is a humidification equipment capable of providing an environment with relative humidity requirements, if necessary, according to the following coding:

  • Code A, 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity
  • Code B, 50 percent plus/minus 10 percent relative humidity
  • Code C, 65 percent plus/minus 10 percent relative humidity
  • Code D, no relative humidity control or measurement

Reference will be made to the appropriate code in the applicable material specification or test procedure. In the event of a conflict between the material specification and the test procedure, the material specification replaces the test procedures.

Room temperature control equipment is an air circulating oven or a suitable equipment used to control the ambient temperature for the purpose of drying materials that require drying.

The test tool or test piece is organic materials such as polyamides, polyurethanes, wool, cotton, fiberboard and the like.

Simply put, organic materials are obtained using the decomposed plant and animal remains to make the materials. Organic matter usually contains between 45-50 percent carbon, in addition to the following: oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur. Today, using organic materials to manufacture cars is gaining more and more attention as a practical and environmentally friendly endeavor.

Our organization also provides testing services for standard conditioning of organic materials within the scope of the GMW 3221 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
