EN 12642 Load Securing in Road Vehicles - Body Structure of Commercial Vehicles - Minimum Requirements

The EN 12642 standard, a European standard, describes the requirements for body structures in commercial vehicles and trailers. This standard specifies the basic minimum requirements and defines appropriate test methods for standard vehicle bodies such as side walls, front and rear walls, and reinforced vehicle bodies. This standard applies to all commercial vehicles related to the body structures described below in terms of design and body type.

EN 12642 Load Securing in Road Vehicles - Body Structure of Commercial Vehicles - Minimum Requirements

  • The floor of the vehicle is part of the subframe.
  • Unless the soil strength is defined, the manufacturer must provide the necessary information.
  • Testing of axle load on the ground should be done in a similar way in EN 283 standard (EN 283 Bodies change - Tests)
  • The result should be marked where appropriate to this standard.

Forces applied according to these described test requirements can be used for load securing purposes.

However, this standard does not apply to vans defined in the ISO 27956 standard (ISO 27956 Road vehicles - Securing cargo in delivery vans - Requirements and test methods).

For the purposes of this standard,

  • Reinforced vehicle body refers to a vehicle body that has a reinforced structure and complies with the minimum requirements for Code XL according to the tables in the standard.
  • Based on the weight of the load and friction means a vehicle body that complies with the minimum requirements for Code L according to the tables in the standard, which requires additional securing of the load using lashing equipment.

Verification of compliance with the requirements described in the EN 12642 standard should be ensured by:

  • Dynamic driving tests
  • Static tests (airbag test and static tilt test in accordance with EN 12195-1 standard with cargo type and time specified in dynamic test)
  • Other methods of application of acceptable test forces, if equivalence to these test methods can be demonstrated.
  • Calculation methods should be validated with one of these test methods

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides internal testing services for the body structure of commercial vehicles in terms of securing the load in road vehicles, within the scope of EN 12642 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment. .
