Jaguar Land Rover STJLR.51.5262 Performance Requirements for Undecorated Plastics

Jaguar Land Rover STJLR.51.5262 Performance Requirements for Undecorated Plastics

Developed by Jaguar Land Rover, a British multinational automotive company, the “STJLR.51.5262 Performance requirements for undecorated plastics” standard describes the supply and performance requirements for plastic materials in Jaguar Land Rover components and assemblies across all areas of the vehicle. This standard applies only to undecorated plastic materials and components. Typical manufacturing methods include injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion. The aim is to define test methods and acceptance criteria for undecorated plastic materials. This standard is revised at least every three years.

The requirements in this standard are described as follows:

  • Production materials: All material suppliers and component manufacturers must comply with the standard “STJLR.51.5226 Standard requirements for production materials”.
  • Material control of black and gray box items: All material suppliers and component manufacturers must comply with the standard “STJLR.51.5227 Material control of black and gray box items”.
  • Restricted substances: All suppliers must comply with the requirements of the “STJLR.99.9999 Restricted substance management” standard.
  • Flammability: All internal materials and components must be tested for flammability in accordance with FMVSS7803 to support the overall JLR multinational flammability requirement RF-302. Additional specific market requirements may be phased in depending on the program. Requirement texts should be consulted for exact details to ensure materials and components comply with the latest regulations.
  • Component presentation: Components supplied for testing must meet the standard “STJLR.01.5019 Unpainted plastic: Cosmetic appearance”.
  • Dimensions and tolerances: The dimensions and tolerances of the component should be as specified in the standard “STJLR.51.5261 Engineering drawing tolerances for plastic moldings”.
  • Material identification mark: All plastic parts weighing more than 100 g must carry a material identification mark in accordance with the CADJLR.02.02 standard.
  • Samples: Samples for initial approval testing should be representative of production-grade components as much as possible. Some tests may require materials in slab form. Samples for approval testing should be representative in all respects of components intended for production supply and should be produced through the actual production process.
  • Transferred test data: To reduce the amount of testing performed both in-house and by suppliers, and therefore reduce time and cost, results from previous material tests can be transferred. Formal documentation is required to support the transfer of results and transfer will only occur if agreed between Jaguar Land Rover and the supplier. Transferred test data can be used for materials but not for components.
  • Use of external test facilities: When testing is conducted by an external test facility, only external test facilities approved by Jaguar Land Rover are used. A report is provided to Jaguar Land Rover for review.

The test schedule and acceptance criteria are detailed in the tables for material level tests and component level tests in the standard. All tests are performed on the intended production surface finish. Tests are performed in accordance with the latest version of the specified test method. If a test is included in both the material related test program and the component related test program, the material test is for initial trials only, with final approval only on a component representative of production.

Jaguar Land Rover reserves the right to review material and component test results against this standard and override the original pass/fail result based on evaluation by a panel of judges.

Testing responsibilities are set out in the standard appendices. If there is any doubt about testing and testing requirements, Jaguar Land Rover should be consulted before testing commences.

Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the standard “STJLR.51.5262 Performance requirements of undecorated plastics” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
