FCA PF.90062 Fascia and Grille Assembly Performance

FCA PF.90062 Fascia and Grille Assembly Performance

Developed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), an Italian-American automotive company, the “FCA PF.90062 Fascia and grille assembly performance” standard describes environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements for front and rear fascia assemblies and grille assemblies.

FCA PF.90062 Fascia and Grille Assembly Performance

A fascia assembly is an exterior trim component that covers the damper system and is attached to the vehicle body panels (fenders and opening panels) by mechanical connections. The following are typical components found in a fascia assembly:

  • Fascia skin single or double structure
  • Upper and lower grille
  • textures
  • Fog pocket frames
  • Glossy finish
  • Step pad
  • Applique
  • Reinforcement brackets
  • Mounting brackets
  • Additives / air dams / diffusers
  • Wheel mudguards
  • Trunk lid / trunk lower foldable panels

This standard also covers standalone grid assemblies. This standard also covers the retention of the following components when shipped as part of a fascia assembly. This standard does not cover the function of the following components:

  • Wire harness
  • Side marker light
  • Fog lights
  • license plate light
  • Energy absorber
  • badges
  • Headlight washer system
  • Parking aid sensors (front and rear)
  • cameras
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Object detection
  • Driver assistance safety modules
  • Active grille shutter
  • Other aerodynamic activators

This standard is limited to CAD files, drawings, or engineering drawings that invoke this standard or reference this standard in another standard or specification.

The products and processes used to manufacture the products listed in this standard must comply with the worker and consumer health, worker safety, regulated substances, recycling and environmental reporting requirements contained in the standard “CS-9003 Environmental, health and safety requirements for regulated substances or processes and product recycling reporting requirement”.

If there are mandatory or recommended tests provided in this standard, they are for the purpose of assuring compliance with the specification but do not relieve the responsible organization from ensuring that the component or system meets all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements, including all applicable system interface requirements, as described in the standard throughout its stated useful life.

A test plan must be developed to verify and validate all required functions specified in this standard. The responsible organization must provide additional tests deemed necessary to meet the functional requirements. The tables at the end of this standard provide a summary of all requirements and are used to develop the test plan.

Samples used for design verification must meet the specified drawing tolerance range. Samples for manufacturing verification must meet the statistical capabilities for the machine and manufacturing processes.

Each line item of the test plan must be supported by a comprehensive test or laboratory procedure, as required. A test plan agreement by the FCA does not relieve the responsible organization from ensuring that the component or system meets all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory, and durability requirements, including all applicable system interface requirements within the organization's area of responsibility, as described in the standard for the specified useful life.

Recommended, recommended or specified components or suppliers, if any, must still comply with the specification and do not relieve the responsible organization from ensuring that the component or system using such recommended, recommended or specified components or suppliers meets all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements, including all applicable system interface requirements within the organization's area of responsibility, as described in the standard for the specified useful life.

In this standard, the environmental requirements are described as follows:

  • Environmental abrasion exposure, fluid performance and scratch resistance: Fascia components must meet all requirements while remaining bonded to the body without discoloration or form degradation when exposed to environmental abrasion and environmental/automotive fluids as specified in:
    • Environmental corrosion: Accelerated xenon arc corrosion testing for painted components shall be performed in accordance with the standard “MS.90102 Artificial weathering resistance appearance test”. Accelerated xenon arc corrosion testing for MIC components shall be performed in accordance with the standard MS-JP-9-5 (SAE J-2527).
    • Resistance to liquids: For painted components, testing shall be carried out in accordance with standard MS.90102. For MIC components, testing shall be carried out with the liquids and procedure described in standard LP.7M052 (testing is carried out on the components).
    • Scratch resistance: The test for MIC components shall meet the scratch resistance requirements specified in the standard “LP-463DD-18-02 Scratch and exposure resistance of automotive plastics”. High-gloss components shall meet the requirements of the standard “True automatic car wash specified in MS.90102”.

Tests are intended to be performed on samples prepared from actual parts representative of production tooling and process conditions. To ensure a timely production part approval process, wafers or spares may be used at the discretion of the appropriate release engineer.

  • Front and rear fascia cold impact performance: Fascia assemblies must meet all requirements while remaining attached to the body without discoloration or deformation when installed in a vehicle tested in accordance with the requirements of the LP.7N022 standard. Painted fascias are brittle below 0 degrees.
  • Organic coating adhesion performance: Components shall exhibit less than 463 cmA64 peeling when tested in accordance with standard LP-01PB-0,5-22. This test is only valid for paint or coatings on chrome.
  • Closure impact performance: Components must meet all requirements while remaining attached to the body. Failure of any fastener, loss of torque, loss of cohesion or adhesive between any components, or fracture of the part itself are unacceptable for hood testing and trunk lid testing.
  • Simulated solar load performance: Tested according to LP.7N043. Structure targets shall be protected before and after testing. Fascia assemblies shall meet all requirements while remaining attached to the body without discoloration or deformation when installed on a vehicle being tested as follows: no rippling or deformation of the fascia or step pad during or after testing. Structure targets shall be protected before and after testing. Part elongation/growth due to thermal expansion is only acceptable during testing and shall return to its normal state as defined by the specific program.

This standard also describes environmental requirements for:

  • General random vibration with temperature cycling performance
  • Torque test
  • Mud packing high pressure spray performance
  • Water passing performance
  • Corrosion resistance requirements
  • Exhaust heat resistance performance of rear fascia
  • Dimensional stability requirements
  • Thermal shock requirements
  • Thermal cycling requirements
  • Moisture resistance requirements
  • Natural wear and tear requirement

Our organization has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself.
