The GMW 14797 standard, developed by the General Motors company, describes the requirements for organic surface coatings on plastic parts and components used for automotive exterior and interior applications in motor vehicles, painted components in the engine compartment, and hardcoat and anti-condensation coating for exterior lighting.

Briefly, this standard covers organic surface coatings on plastic parts and components used in exterior applications in motor vehicles as well as painted components inside the engine compartment. This standard defines performance requirements for paints applied on plastic parts used in motor vehicle exterior or engine compartment applications. It also covers laboratory testing requirements for machining conditions and routine quality control of exterior plastic painted automobile components.
This specification applies only to substrate and paint related materials that have been qualified and approved to the appropriate General Motors specifications. The requirements of the GMW 3005 standard must be met for the appropriate paint specification to be approved. This specification also defines exterior paint performance requirements for new plastics considered for approval in the General Motors database. These tests are normally performed on plaques that have been painted in a laboratory, but can also be completed on production parts or spare parts. Compliance with these requirements is the first step in the approval process. Additional steps include testing painted parts in production and monitoring quality during a long production run.
The surface of exterior parts painted in the vehicle color, for example covers, bumpers and mirrors, is evaluated according to the quality procedure, paint / metal surface appearance guidelines.
For classification, this standard specifies three types of requirements, depending on the severity of the component's service operation:
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services to determine the performance requirements of painted plastic parts, within the scope of the GMW 14797 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
