Renault D47 1934 Roof Linings - Soiling Tendency

Renault D47 1934 Roof Linings - Soiling Tendency

The standard “Renault D47 1934 Roof coverings - Tendency to soiling”, developed by the French automobile company Renault, describes a procedure for monitoring the tendency of roof coverings to soiling.

Renault D47 1934 Roof Linings - Soiling Tendency

In principle, this method consists of exposing a roofing test sample to a flow of contaminated air and observing the type of contamination obtained on the appearance side.

Major test equipment used in these tests includes:

  • The backless assembly has internal dimensions of 250 mm x 200 mm x 300 mm and is equipped with a cover containing an axial fan. The 119 mm x 119 mm x 38 mm has a standard flow rate of 26,9 l/s plus/minus 4,9 l/s. This equipment can be made of wood and steel. This assembly is positioned on 80 or 2 blocks of 4 mm height for testing.
  • Scales are accurate to hundredths of a gram.
  • The enamel porcelain capsule has a diameter of 40 mm plus/minus 5 mm and a height of 30 mm plus/minus 10 mm.
  • The cylindrical weight has a maximum weight of 50 g to 500 g plus/minus 10 g, a diameter of 20 mm to 40 mm plus/minus 5 mm and a maximum height of 30 mm plus/minus 10 mm.
  • The pipette or syringe has a 5 ml graduation.
  • Matches or a lighter.
  • Band saw (cutter or frame cutter).
  • White spirit.
  • Stopwatch.
  • Fire ventilation enclosure (fire test chamber).

When preparing the sample, four 250 mm x 200 mm samples are cut cleanly with a saw, with the test tools to ensure a correct seal. The aim is to force air through the ceiling tile. 4 samples should be taken from the same flat area of the roof. This is done to avoid any scatter in the results. These samples should be the same size as the assembly inside, with a maximum gap of less than 1 mm in all peripheral equipment. The peripheral area of the piece should not be crushed.

The test is performed on three test samples and the fourth is kept as a reference sample. The test method includes the following steps:

  • The device is placed in a fire room whose ventilation is controlled at 0,5 m/s plus/minus 0,2 m/s and secured by a protection window.
  • The test specimen is placed on the mounting test specimen support, centered and positioned with the viewing side down. The viewing side should be inside the box.
  • To prevent the test sample from moving during the test, the weight is placed in the middle of the test sample.
  • White spirit is sampled using the pipette.
  • 2ml to 3ml of white spirit is added to the capsule or bulk quantities. With this quantity, it is possible to perform several tests in succession until there is no more white spirit. The adequacy of the quantity is verified before the test according to the test duration.
  • The capsule is placed at the front and bottom of the assembly.
  • A small paper wick is placed inside the capsule to ignite the white spirit. The wick is lit with a match or lighter and the white spirit is allowed to ignite completely in front to start the test.
  • The fan is turned on and the extracted air is directed upwards.
  • The ignited capsule is placed in the middle of the device and a guard is placed in front of the device to prevent the flame from going out or the air flow from disturbing the combustion.
  • The stopwatch is started once every 2 minutes according to the defined test time.
  • The capsule is removed and deflated.
  • The fan is stopped.
  • The test sample is removed from the apparatus.
  • Deterioration is detected with the first sample.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the “Renault D47 1934 Roof coverings - Tendency to dirt” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
