GM9240P Sweating Resistance

GM9240P Sweating Resistance

The GM9240P standard developed by the General Motors company describes a test method for determining the perspiration resistance of the materials used in vehicles.

Testing automotive industry textile materials is a very costly activity, but still, these tests are necessary to achieve an improvement in technical performance characteristics and user comfort. The strategy of permanent improvement and the desire to meet automotive-specific requirements aims to prevent defects that may arise in the production process of textile materials, rather than only testing them when the product is finished.

Dye resistance is important to determine the level of probability of textile materials to change their color when exposed to various events. Among the tests carried out in this context, there is also a sweat resistance test. The samples are cut to fit the dimensions required by the relevant test and then exposed to substances resembling human perspiration.

The purpose of this test method is to determine the probability of discoloration from the material due to the effect of perspiration. In general, during this test, a test sample in contact with a standard plurality of fibrous fabrics is immersed in distilled or deionized water or an alkaline solution of artificial perspiration or an acid solution of artificial perspiration. The test specimen assembly is then clamped between two glass surfaces under a standard pressure and kept in a warm environment for a specified period of time. The test sample and the multifibre fabric are dried separately and the change in color is evaluated subjectively with gray scales.

Meanwhile, in perspiration resistance tests, the ISO 105-E04 standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is also followed. This standard defines a test method for determining the resistance of the color of textile products of all types and forms to perspiration. Often, excessive exposure to perspiration causes dyed fabrics to stain or lose their color. This test method is one of the fundamental test methods for determining the color fastness of textile products.

Textile products used in the automotive sector are in contact with the skin for a long time and coexist with secreted sweat. In this respect, international standards have been developed to determine color fastness to perspiration.

Our organization also provides sweat resistance testing services within the scope of the GM9240P standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
