KIA MS213-51 Al Foil, PU (Polyurethane) Film, PU (Polyurethane) Foam, PP (Polypropylene) Material Performance and Quality

The “KIA MS213-51 Al foil, PU (polyurethane) film, PU (polyurethane) foam, PP (polypropylene) material performance and quality” standard developed by Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation, the oldest motor vehicle manufacturing company in Korea, describes a procedure for determining the performance and quality of aluminum foil, polyurethane film, polyurethane foam and polypropylene materials.

KIA MS213-51 Al Foil, PU (Polyurethane) Film, PU (Polyurethane) Foam, PP (Polypropylene) Material Performance and Quality

In this specification, materials are defined as follows:

  • Type A: Polypropylene, glass fiber 30 percent, random short fiber, injection molding
  • Type B: Glass mat reinforced thermoplastic, glass fiber 30 percent, random long fiber compression molding
  • Type C: Long fiber thermoplastic, 22 percent glass fiber, orthogonal long fiber, compression molding

This specification classifies 3 types of materials as defined in the table titled “Type and application”:

  • Type A: Injection
  • Type B: Compression
  • Type C: Compression

The general requirements in this standard are described as follows:

  • Parts using this material must comply with all requirements of the relevant assembly performance standard.
  • The chemical composition and processing conditions should not be changed inappropriately, which may affect the quality of the parts.
  • Before changing the chemical composition of the material, it is mandatory to consult with the materials and quality control departments.
  • Final parts made from this material must be free from defects, uneven shine, burn marks, warpage, silver streak, cracks, uneven color, flow marks, weld lines, sink marks or other defects.
  • Assemblies must be free from any defects that could adversely affect appearance or performance.
  • Sound absorption or sound transmission performance must be confirmed by the responsible departments.

Detailed requirements in this standard are included in a table provided within the standard.

Assemblies and components are tested using the methods defined in the standard and must comply with the requirements specified in the table.

The installation requirements are determined as follows:

  • Thermal cycling: There should be no delamination, swelling or distortion.
  • Moisture resistance: There should be no delamination or swelling.
  • Cold impact resistance: No cracking.
  • Hazardous materials: Each material must meet the requirements of the standard “KIA MS201-02 Prohibition and notification of the use of hazardous materials and parts”.

The requirements for aluminium foil are determined on the following basis:

  • Al foil thickness
  • Glass cloth thickness
  • Glass cloth density
  • Glass cloth weight
  • Adhesive peeling strength

The requirements for polyurethane films are determined on the following basis:

  • Thickness
  • Apparent density
  • Tensile elongation
  • Power
  • Tear strength
  • Flammability

The requirements for polyurethane foam are determined on the following basis:

  • Apparent density
  • Pulling Power
  • Elongation
  • Tear strength
  • Heat resistance (tensile strength, elongation, tear strength)
  • Moisture resistance (tensile strength, elongation, tear strength)
  • Compression setting at 50 percent
  • Flammability

Carrier requirements are determined on the following basis:

  • Specific gravity
  • Pulling Power
  • Bending strength
  • Flexural modulus
  • Izod impact power
  • Heat distortion temperature
  • Rockwell hardness (R scale)
  • Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)
  • Thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA)
  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
  • Flammability

In general, the standard condition of the laboratory in the tests is 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees temperature and 50 percent plus/minus 5 percent relative humidity. The samples are carried out on the samples immediately after a conditioning period of at least 48 hours in the standard condition specified above, at least 24 hours after molding. The test samples should be molded using the same material as the products and the standard should be followed according to each test item and in case of anisotropic properties, the samples should be prepared according to the direction parallel to the primary fiber direction.

For each test item described in this standard, the test report must be submitted to the relevant material team and quality control departments. Whenever materials, recycling and suppliers are changed, the test report must be submitted and approved.

Our organization has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies provided for businesses in various sectors, there are also testing services in accordance with the "KIA MS213-51 Al foil, PU (polyurethane) film, PU (polyurethane) foam, PP (polypropylene) material performance and quality" standard.
