The Toyota BSDL5705 "Trim Sheets for In-Dashboard Mufflers" standard, a Toyota engineering standard, covers muffler trim materials (sheets) to be used in vehicle compartments for sound insulation, heat insulation, and similar purposes. This standard is designed in accordance with the "BSDZ0001 Restrictions on the Use of Environmentally Concerns as Materials or Product Components" standard, regarding the use of environmentally concerning materials and substances.

Classification and coding are based on materials as shown in the table provided within the standard. Symbols indicated in the table are used for flammability differentiation. The classification is as follows:
The shapes, dimensions, and designs of the sheets must conform to the specifications in this standard. The sheets must be free from surface abnormalities such as irregularities, defects, or contamination, and must not contain foreign matter. The sheets must be tested according to this standard and must meet the requirements in the table. If it is anticipated that the actual test conditions will exceed those specified herein due to the vehicle structure and operating environment, the test conditions may be modified in consultation with the relevant parties before testing.
Essentially, cladding panels conforming to the BSDL5705 standard act as a soundproof barrier for the instrument panel's internal mufflers. The instrument panel represents a firewall separating the engine compartment from the cabin and preventing unwanted noise from leaking in. Internal mufflers are foam or felt pads bonded to this panel, absorbing vibrations before they are transmitted to the interior. Cladding panels act as a protective covering, typically made of durable, non-woven fabric or polymer laminate, protecting these mufflers from heat, moisture, and abrasion while also enhancing acoustic insulation.
The material has a multi-layered structure, containing viscoelastic polymers for vibration damping, closed-cell foam for thermal insulation, and a breathable outer layer to prevent mold growth in humid climates. This installation can reduce cabin noise by 5-10 dB. It is glued to the underside of the dashboard, behind the glove compartment or steering column, and covers access holes and seams in the firewall. These panels are not only about quietness, but are also essential for safety and efficiency. By insulating the cabin, they help maintain HVAC performance and reduce driver fatigue.
When conducting tests, samples should be taken from the product that has been conditioned for 24 hours or longer in a test laboratory maintained under standard conditions of 23 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees Celsius and 50% plus/minus 5% relative humidity prior to testing. If the test laboratory cannot be maintained under standard conditions, the temperature and humidity values during the test should be added to the test data. Unless otherwise specified, the number of samples used in a test should be three or more, and the test results should be presented as an average value. If there are different properties between the longitudinal and transverse directions, the lower value of either the longitudinal or transverse direction should be reported as the standard value, and the corresponding test values should be reported as the test results. The correct thickness should be reported for each sample taken from the product and used in each test.
For specific gravity measurement, the exact dimensions and mass of each sample, approximately 100 mm x 100 mm, are measured and calculated according to the specific gravity equation.
The test methods defined in the Toyota BSDL5705 standard are as follows:
In a vehicle where instrument panel mufflers can contribute up to 10-15% to cabin noise reduction, rigorous testing according to the Toyota BSDL5707 standard significantly improves driver focus.
For many years, our organization, with its competent and experienced staff, has been understanding the needs of its customers, providing the advanced testing services they require, and assisting in the establishment, implementation, and improvement of management systems. Within this framework, we also provide testing services to businesses in accordance with the "Toyota BSDL5705 Cover Plates for Instrument Panel Internal Mufflers" standard.
