Renault Nissan RNDS-C-00373 Pile Floor Carpet - Installation and Accessories

The “Renault Nissan RNDS-C-00373 Pile Floor Mat - Assembly and Accessories” standard, developed jointly by the French automobile company Renault and the automobile company Nissan , describes the requirements for pile floor mats and accessories. Their function is to cover the horizontal surface of the passenger compartment or luggage compartment. In general, pile floor mats consist of:

  • Needle or tufted hair
  • Heel matW
  • Footrest
  • Additional mat

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:

  • Heel mat refers to a piece made of plastic material used to protect the carpet where the customer's heel goes while driving.
  • A footrest refers to a stationary piece of plastic or metal material on which the driver must place his or her left foot close to the clutch pedal while driving.
  • Additional mat refers to an interior vehicle part made of plastic material or carpet fabric designed to protect the vehicle floor from dirt or abrasion.

According to the specifications required for the vehicle, the carpets must meet the requirements for durability on the track and on simulation test benches. For plastic components, the initial condition of the surface is visually and tactically checked for burrs, sharp edges, shrinkage gaps, welds, scratches, etc. The burrs must be 0,3 mm or less in height.

Parts must be marked in accordance with the standard “00-10-501 Renault marking or Renault/Nissan parts” and the standard “00-10-415 Production and supply of products - General requirements", as well as standards D0021 and D0031. The marking method and location, as well as the size of the marks, must be specified in the drawing for approval by Nissan.

In the Renault Nissan RNDS-C-00373 standard, the requirements are described on the following basis:

  • Mechanical durability properties
    • Mechanical strength properties for carpet installation
    • Mechanical durability properties for heel mat
    • Mechanical durability properties for footrest
    • Mechanical durability specifications for boot floor carpet (only for Renault)
    • Mechanical strength properties for additional mat
  • Reliability and durability
    • Carpet durability
    • Footrest durability
    • Additional mat durability
  • Environmental resistance
    • Carpet installation resistance
    • Heel mat resistance
    • Footrest resistance
    • Additional mat resistance
  • Specific features
  • Material
    • General
    • Material related tests
  • Legislative requirements
    • Flammability
    • Security features or regulation
  • Definition technical sheet
  • Geometries
  • Quality
  • Reliability

For example, the mechanical strength properties for carpet installation are defined in the standard as follows:

  • Tear strength: The purpose of the test is to measure the tear strength of carpets. The test is carried out on samples in accordance with “Nissan M0076 Automotive carpet test methods - Clause 13”.
  • Tensile strength: The purpose of the test is to measure the maximum tensile strength and elongation of carpets before tearing. The test is carried out on samples in accordance with “Nissan M0076 Automotive carpet test methods - Clause 12”.
  • Pile bond strength (only for tuft version): The purpose of the test is to measure the tuft bond strength of carpets. The test is carried out on samples in accordance with “Nissan M0076 Automotive carpet test methods - Clause 14”.
  • Seam strength: The purpose of the test is to measure the breaking strength at the bond point in the case of the component sewn to the main carpet. The test is carried out on samples in accordance with “Nissan M0076 Automotive carpet test methods - Clause 12”.
  • Hardness and flexibility: The purpose of the test is to evaluate the hardness and flexibility of the carpet. The test is carried out on samples in accordance with “Nissan M0076 Automotive carpet test methods - Clause 17”.
  • Carpet anchor strength: Testing is performed using SAE 50 percent 3D dummy foot under installation vehicle conditions. This test is applicable to the passenger compartment only.
  • Puncture resistance (only for Renault): The test is determined according to standard “D41 1097”. Samples must be taken from the areas specified in Annex 1. This test is only valid for the passenger compartment.
  • Heel test (for Nissan only): The durability of the carpet and riser is evaluated using a test piece placed under conditions equivalent to: actual vehicle assembly and the load conditions described in Appendix 2.
  • Hardness (only for Renault): The purpose of the test is to evaluate the hardness of the floor isolator to the carpet. The test is carried out by applying a load to a disc in different areas from the carpet as described in Annex 8 under the mounting tool.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the “Renault Nissan RNDS-C-00373 Pile floor carpet - Installation and accessories” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
