Hyundai Kia MS210-05 Molded Plastic Parts - Interior

The standard “Hyundai Kia MS210-05 Molded plastic parts - Interior” developed by Hyundai Motor Company applies to molded plastics used in automotive interior trim in terms of general performances. Therefore, this specification excludes the performances of parts or components specified by other engineering specifications and material specifications.

According to the general requirements described in the standard,

  • The hue should be within the range of the standard sample under bright natural light.
  • The surface of the parts should not have any defects, uneven gloss, sunburn, excessive welding marks, flow marks, pinholes, adhesion and other defects.
  • Products made of polyamide (nylon9) should be immersed in hot water (1 degrees or higher) for 80 hour or more immediately after molding.

According to the detailed requirements described in the standard, the parts must be tested by the methods specified in this standard and must comply with the requirements in the table given in the standard. Each test item must be applied with the same method (windshield and rear window adjustment) as those installed in the actual vehicle. However, sealing between the glass and the body is not required.

According to the detailed requirements described in the standard,

  • Thermal cycle resistance and heat aging resistance: No visible deterioration, deformation, discoloration, tearing, cracking, peeling, excessive hardness change, adhesion and other defects. No loose screws, nuts, caulking, etc. No deformation that will impair the performance of internal components.
  • Fade resistance: Visible discoloration, no fading. Minimum 3 degrees in grayscale. Adhesion on painted parts shall be minimum M-2.5.
  • Vibration resistance: No loose screws, nuts and caulking that will crack, break, deform or impair the performance of components.
  • Chemical resistance: No visible discoloration, peeling, cracking, blistering, etc. Minimum 3 degrees in grayscale.
  • Abrasion resistance: Minimum 3 degrees.
  • Scratch resistance: Minimum 3 degrees.
  • Impact resistance: No breakage, tearing, deformation, etc. that would significantly affect the appearance.
  • Fog resistance: Crash pad 10 percent maximum. Door trim, rear shelf, high-mounted stop lamp, etc. 15 percent maximum. Floor console, carpet, etc. 15 percent maximum.
  • Conductivity resistance: Surface resistance ratio of at least 10 for colored parts molded from polypropylene13 Ω.·Other materials should be suitable for drawing.

Specimens should be conditioned at 24 degrees plus/minus 23 degrees and 2 percent plus/minus 50 percent relative humidity for at least 5 hours prior to testing and tested under the same conditions. When the laboratory cannot maintain these conditions, the temperature and relative humidity should be reported.

Samples shall be selected from finished products or their equivalents made under the same conditions as finished products. Samples shall be subjected to secondary processing such as coating, vacuum evaporation, hot stamping and painting. Detailed requirements for secondary processing shall be in accordance with relevant specifications.

If specifically described in the drawing, the vibration resistance test should be performed after the heat aging resistance test.

The heat cycle resistance test shall be repeated three times. The surface temperature of the parts shall conform to the requirements in the table. In case of special drawing instructions, it shall conform to the drawing. The cold resistance shall be minus 30 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees. The humidity resistance shall be 50 degrees plus/minus 2 degrees, the relative humidity shall be 90 percent or more. The thermal condition adjustment method shall conform to the MS 200-48 standard. It shall evaluate the appearance and operation of the parts after three cycles. It shall measure any appearance change or deformation after each cycle. It shall add reference data to the evaluation results.

The thermal shock resistance test is applied to the parts specifically specified. The sample is kept in an oven set to the heat resistance temperature shown in the table for 3 minutes, then left at room temperature for 10 minutes. This procedure is repeated 5 times.

In the heat aging resistance test, the sample is aged in an oven under the conditions specified in the table and then subjected to visual inspection. In the case of laminating parts and painting parts, a cross-cut adhesion test is performed. The impact pad (including the pad layer) is evaluated under the assembly conditions, and the deformation of the parts is decided between the parties. Colored parts molded with polypropylene resin are evaluated only under the conditions specified in the table for surface appearance change if specified in the drawing.

In the fade resistance test (carbon arc method), a uniform ultraviolet carbon arc lamp is applied to the sample for the time specified in the table. In painted parts, after evaluating the degree of discoloration and fading under the conditions in the table, it should comply with the MS 652-14 standard.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the “Hyundai Kia MS655-12 Test Method - Carpet Cleanability” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
