GMW 14124 Automotive Environmental Cycles

GMW 14124 Automotive Environmental Cycles

Developed by the General Motors company, the GMW 14124 standard defines various environmental cycles and aging conditions that can be performed before testing or as a full test. This standard does not include standard conditions for testing or pre-test preconditioning. These requirements are contained in the material specification or the GMW 3221 standard (GMW 3221 Standard conditioning of organic materials).

GMW 14124 Automotive Environmental Cycles

This test method includes several globally agreed cycles for material specifications. General Motors chooses only these cycles to establish requirements for material specifications. The globally accepted cycles for material specifications are: M, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W cycles.

Some test cycles in this standard are best used as quality control testing and are not intended to validate potential field performance.

The environmental impacts from the automotive industry are too great to be underestimated. In general, these environmental effects are grouped into three groups:

  • Environmental impacts of production processes (these are mainly atmospheric emissions, wastewater and solid and hazardous wastes).
  • Environmental effects during its use (these are mainly atmospheric emissions and solid and liquid waste).
  • Environmental impacts of end-of-life vehicles (these are scrapped vehicles and their solid and liquid waste).

Manufacturers in the automotive sector have to make regular notifications to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization every year for the emissions and wastes arising from the first mentioned production.

In automotive production, water, energy and chemical compounds are used along with many raw materials. Automotive production has a wide range of inputs and mainly production activities are based on three basic processes: metal forming, surface preparation and surface finishing. In these processes, many raw materials are used as inputs, but many solid, liquid and gaseous wastes are released with the product. These wastes are generally dangerous for the environment.

Our organization also provides automotive environmental cycle testing services within the scope of GMW 14124 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
