RNES-B-00087 Reference Liquid Materials for Compliance Testing
A Renault Nissan engineering standard, “RNES-B-00087 Reference fluid materials for compatibility testing”, defines the fluids, lubricants and fuels to be used when performing compatibility tests on a part and material, whether in occasional contact or continuous contact with one of the specified product types.

This standard is the same as the Nissan engineering standard "Nissan NES M0133 Chemical resistance test methods for plastic parts". The Nissan NES M0133 standard also describes the test methods for chemical resistance of plastic parts used for automobile parts. The purpose of these tests is to determine whether chemicals used in dealerships and in the vehicle and part assembly process cause abnormalities in automotive plastic parts. These abnormalities include dissolution, turbidity, stains, discoloration, deformation, cracks, fractures, thinning, softening, hardening and similar conditions caused by direct part contact with chemicals or chemicals in adjacent parts. For plastic materials used in automobiles, this standard also specifies the evaluation method of aging deterioration by chemical change caused by continuous contact with chemicals.
Essentially, the test methods described in the Nissan NES M0133 standard are:
- Method 1 Immersion test for parts used as Type 1 Containers or equivalent - Chemical resistance required: all chemicals used in containers.
- Method 1 Type 2 Immersion test for parts normally exposed to chemicals - Chemical resistance required: all chemicals in contact with the part.
- Method 2 Wipe test for internal parts - Chemical resistance required: artificial perspiration, detergent, insect repellent suntan oil, sunscreen, liquid paraffin and others.
- Method 3 Drip test for exterior parts - Required chemical resistance: gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, engine oil, acid, wax, windshield washer fluid, detergent, base coat and the like.
- Method 4 Drip test for parts inside the engine compartment - Required chemical resistance: gasoline, diesel fuel, engine oil, kerosene, acid, brake fluid, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, corrosion inhibitor, calcium chloride and the like.
- Method 5 Application situation on a real vehicle for interior parts, exterior parts and parts made of ABS, PMMA, PC, PPE and PAT materials - Required chemical resistance: grease, lubricating oil, metal cutting oil, press machine oil, corrosion inhibitor, silicone oil (including emulsion types), paint protection agent, paint remover, mold release agent, detergent and all similar chemicals and artificial perspiration used in the parts assembly process, vehicle assembly process or handling process at dealerships. Required chemical resistance for parts adjacent to the component containing plasticizer: plasticizer (vinyl chloride, rubber materials.
- Method 6 (environmental load ingress test method) Individual application or immersion test for parts in contact with or likely to come into contact with chemicals - Required chemical resistance: chemicals with which the applicable parts come into contact or likely to come into contact.
For the purposes of the RNES-B-00087 standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
- Reference material: Tests shall be performed with the reference material specified for the function. If the product is not yet specified or is not available, the product specified by the materials engineer in part five of this standard shall be used.
- The second fill product described in the annex to this standard may be used for compatibility testing, but only after written approval from the relevant engineering authority:
- Since none of the reference materials are available
- Or the function or part to be tested is only available aftermarket
The supplier performing the compatibility tests remains responsible for the reference material information and test results actually used.
The requirements for reference material are set out as follows:
- Lubricants:
- Gasoline engine oil: The RNES-B-00015 standard applies.
- Diesel engine oil: The RNES-B-00015 standard applies.
- Manual transmission oil: The RNES-B-00018 standard applies.
- Diesel engine oil diluted with fuel: SHELL PC1033 (with 10 mass percent fuel) product specified for function (standard 03-50-000 applies for fuel or biofuel)
- Automatic transmission oil: Total XT4426 standards apply for Renault, NES M5078 and NES M5090 standards apply for Nissan.
- Power steering oil: The specified standard for the SK RN PSF function or oil for Renault, the NES M5084 standard for Nissan applies.
- Brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid for the vehicle: The RNES-B-00017 standard applies.
- Cooler: RNES-B-00014 standard applies.
- Windshield washer fluid: The RNES-B-00016 standard applies.
- Gasoline fuel: For Renault, the 03-50-000 standard applies, and for Nissan, the NES M5052 standard applies.
- Diesel fuel: For Renault, the 03-50-000 standard applies, and for Nissan, the NES M5058 standard applies.
- Biofuels (ethanol, biodiesel, LPG): For Renault, standard 03-50-000 applies, for Nissan depending on need.
